Bistro At The Distillery - Allerdale

After reading numerous reviews, we decided to book afternoon tea at this restaurant, and we were not let down. The afternoon tea we were served was very enjoyable, but with a few minor adjustments, it could be outstanding. First, I suggest cutting the sandwiches in half from corner to corner, and perhaps making the portion suitable for two as the amount of food provided was too generous for one. We mentioned this to a staff member, who acknowledged that this feedback had been received before. Despite these suggestions, we still plan on returning for another visit.

We ate here before doing the whisky tour. We have been to the distillery before but have never eaten at the bistro. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Good quality ingredients and very tasty. Service was quick, which was great as we didn’t have a lot of time before our tour started. Would definitely go back to try other items on the menu.

Not one to normally write reviews but after seeing the negative comments I wanted to share how lovely our Sunday lunch has been. Staff very attentive and drinks arrived quickly. We opted for 3 courses from the Sunday lunch menu and everything has been fantastic. The roast beef was so delicious I am already planning a trip back when we are next in the Lakes. Thank you for a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Went for Sunday lunch. The beef looked lovely but several of us chose chicken which was a much smaller portion and a little dry. The stuffing and roast potatoes were over cooked, vegetables few and far between and gravy over seasoned. Yorkshire puddings were however large and of a good standard. Dessert was lemon posset which was lovely but covered in raspberry jam which was far too sweet and added nothing to the dish. Shortbread was average
