I visit at least once a week with my dragonboat team for training, and the friendly staff always welcome me with a smile as I order my delicious coffee. The food is also fantastic, with fresh fish dishes and a wonderful breakfast menu to enjoy while watching the sunrise over the marina. It's a peaceful and quiet spot, away from the hustle and bustle of other bars and restaurants, making it a hidden gem worth discovering.
The Billfish Cafe is a popular spot located at Pier Z in Westhaven, the busiest pier in the marina. With ample parking and stunning views of the marina and Auckland harbour, the cafe offers a nice atmosphere and tasty food. While the prices may be on the higher side, around $35 for a lunch main, the overall experience is good. The service, however, can be inconsistent with wait times up to 15 minutes for a takeaway coffee, even when it's not busy. Despite these issues, the cafe still attracts plenty of customers. With some improvements in service and pricing, The Billfish Cafe could easily earn a 5-star rating.
This restaurant is a hidden gem with a beautiful location by the water, perfect for enjoying a meal or drink while taking in the peaceful surroundings. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, and for breakfast and lunch on Sundays. Closed on Mondays for rest. Highly recommended for a relaxing dining experience away from the busy viaduct area.
I don't know how I ended up dining at this place, and it's not like anything terrible happened, but I'm unlikely to return. The service is okay, it's not amazing. The location is lovely looking out over the water at all those boats. Beautiful on a stunning Auckland summer day. ... But the food is just average. I ordered bacon and eggs on ciabatta. And while you can't exactly screw that up, you can make it pretty average which is exactly what this place did. The bacon was terrible quality, it was covered in fat and it came out looking horrible on the plate, just dumped on the side. My poached eggs hadn't been drained properly and were watery tasting as well, so that made the bread taste awful. The bread wasn't well toasted, it was somewhere in between... I just don't get it. I could have got better at home, and I wouldn't have paid $18 for it. The muesli that my friends ordered was bland and didn't come with any yoghurt, so it looked dry as anything. Coffee was average, it wasn't disgusting but it wasn't great. It's just... pretty average. It seem clearly to me that this is a place that relies solely on its location.
We had a delightful lunch in a wonderful setting on a beautiful autumn day. Upon arriving, we were greeted by several friendly employees and shown to our perfect table. We enjoyed a refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc as it was International Sauvignon Blanc Day and explored the new and sophisticated menu. However, we couldn't resist ordering the outstanding billfish fish and chips. The batter was perfectly crispy, the terakihi fresh, and the chips golden and delicious. We were very impressed! We were too full for dessert, but had a fantastic afternoon thanks to the excellent food and attentive staff.
