The dishes were inventive and delicious, the service was good (though not overly friendly I think some reviewers here have been unhappy with this style of service, to which I would say 'try dining in Paris! ' ...anyway, I found it efficient and helpful). Of course the emphasis of the dishes is truffles, and these were (by my experience at least) of good quality, as one would expect in the 'Truffle capital of France '. Although fairly quiet on a cold December day, I imagine that it would fill up quickly at other times of the year, so best to make a reservation. We will certainly return.
We enjoyed an absolutely lovely and very tasteful evening at La Truffe (Aups), friendly and patient service an a very pleasant atmosphere. The staff patiently explained the menu to us in understandable French and when neves in English. Accidentally found this place and decided to book for Sunday night; no regrets! We chose the four course truffle menu, for the main course we had tuna tartare. All courses had very explicit tastes whereby all ingredients where lovely balanced and could be enjoyed. An accompanying local oaked white fitted all courses surprisingly well. Even the coffee and small sweets were given the same attention. Lovely to see the owners prepare the courses in the fairly small and well equipped kitchen behind a beautiful glass separating wall. It adds to the experience. One can really see feel and taste the pleasure and pride the owners take in serving a beautiful menu and providing a good experience that doubled our appreciation for this region. Thank you to the staff of La Truffe.
Great dishes, we took foie grass and snails and 2 beefs. The meat was not very tender, but the presentation and taste were very sublime. The respect for the customer was very poor. staff were rude and aggressive. Recommend to calm down a little bit.
I was taken to a wonderful restaurant in advance for my birthday by our daughters. Chateau du Berne Bistro as they had to return to UK before my birthday. On my actual birthday on the 31st OCTOBER my husband and I decided to choose a recommended restaurant La Truffe in Aups to celebrate, thinking that the dish of the day which was more expensive than most others in the village would be above average. The starter was a couple of thin slices of fish. I explained to the waitress I don’t eat fish. Unfortunately there was no other choice.. I was therefore served some goats cheese which was fine. The main course was two small dumplings like two very small sausage of a very light bready texture and having no substance. It was served with a mushroom sauce poured over it. A small serving with no hint of meat or poultry and a sweet for dessert. It was the worst main plate of the day we have had on our travels. The total of E 75.50. That price included one small beer and a bottle of wine, the most reasonable dry white wine which was Euros 28 on the wine list and we were charged Euros 30. Not serious but in all it was the main dish was certainly a great disappointment and really not acceptable. Certainly won't go back again.
This is a SPECIAL SPECIAL place. My husband and I ate here in September and enjoyed the delectable meal so much we decided to come back again in October when guests were in town. What a treat it was for them and us (again). The food is THE BEST food around for miles. The menu varies so the second time I had something entirely different and it didn’t disappoint. Everything about ALL FOUR of our meals was SCRUMPTIOUS. And the presentation is just lovely. The chef and the waitress were helpful and relaxed. We can’t say enough and will return hopefully one more time before we go home to the US! Bravo!
