That was as good as you go to the Pacific Northwest (if you don't go across the Canadian border to White Rock, but I'm digressing... In rough order the fish was the first rate: plump and firm, fleshy and juicy, with a big dough, which is oh so hard to find here. The chips were definitely above the par: a small Craspier when you would find most British chippies, but ready to be doused with vinegar and salt. The muddy peas were an _little_ disappointment, honestly not really muddy, more like a cake. In my opinion, good mushy bases should be more like a sauce, and the whole point is that you cannot really find whole heirs. These had more the consistency of the potato maize, and a bit too minty. But everyone to his own. But all that said is a GREAT fish and chips. Two thumbs from my wife and me!
Great little place. Homemade tars sauce, thick chips and perfectly crispy freshly cooked fish. The food is excellent and I love that they even contain correct mushy peas. As a British person who started the United Kingdom since Covid was very missing, this place is a small piece of heaven.
We came for lunch with a group of 9 people, it is a small restaurant with a small staff, but they went over and beyond to take care of us! Reza took our complicated order and shared the cheque 5 ways, then he built our outside table and made sure we enjoy our meal. Although they were very busy, he took the time to engage in friendly conversation. We appreciate personal attention! I'm gluten intolerance and they had nothing on the menu I could eat. Instead of going to a place nearby where I could find something they have changed, they are whole cooking method to make sure that I could enjoy the meal. I had the fish tacos and they were delicious! I really enjoyed the crispy mini-ries on top and the picked onions. My husband had the fish and chips and it is a very generous part of fish with thick satisfying frits. We will definitely come back!
Glad we found this hidden gem at the end of the Main Street from the ferry. Crispy, tender fish and chips. Fries were perfectly done and crispy. Lucky for us, fish tacos were the special of the day. Great meal to start our wine tasting adventure. Customer service was top notch which we all know takes our entire soul to produce these days! Show them some love and make the stop.
I went to Proper Fish for two reasons, first I love fish and chips, and second the reviews lately have been mixed and I wanted to get the straight scoop first hand. The one thing we don’t know is do they have good days and bad days, but I can tell you I caught them on an amazing day. The fish and chips are as good as any I have ever had, although a bit expensive at $19 and when you pay with a credit card they use square that always asks for a tip. Glad I left a tip as the food was well worth it. First off the chips are thick, fresh, and hand cut, maybe a rare instance I thought fries were better than Dick’s…Second the fish is a very long cut piece and there is only one, which at first seems like a small portion, but in the end it was a lot of fish. The batter is on the thick side, but I loved it and the fish was substantial and flaky white. Also, their tarter sauce is amazing. I will definitely go back, maybe next time try the lobster roll. Bottom line you got try PF, well worth it.
