I ordered a drink and after a few sips I came to the conclusion that the syrup for the lemonade was gone, working in pubs myself I knew this was the case, a waitress (short girl lovely long hair) came into the room I was sat at and I brought it up to her. She took the drink and said she would rectify it. Then she came back a few moments later and said that the General Manager said he wouldn’t “renew” the drink and that I had to buy a completely new one. Not ideal considering it’s not my duty to make sure the lemonade and other postmix syrups are functioning. Anyway we got another drink and moved tables. The room we entered was cluttered with cups, glasses, wrappers and all sorts of other mess on quite a lot of tables. Another waitress then was wandering around clearing up and she missed a wrapper hidden behind a menu, so i mentioned it thinking I was being helpful, being a server I thought this was a nice thing to do. I said “oh you’ve missed a wrapper in that table” and to my surprise I was met with the response “clean it yourself” and I was taken aback because I couldn’t think what I’d done wrong. Maybe I’d stuck a nerve? Maybe customer service just isn’t something the Milton values anymore. Sad to see because in the past there were a great staff team, but seems to have gone downhill … won’t be going again sadly.
Great staff, The young waitres that served me was very friendly, service came with a smile and she engaged in polite conversation. Lovely atmosphere
I highly recommend this great traditional pub. The Sunday lunch was really lovely and well-cooked, and the staff were very pleasant and efficient.
The Milton was always our go to for a great Sunday lunch, but sadly this visit will be our last. We have been to the Milton, mostly on a Sunday for the past four or five years and have always recommended it to others. However it has changed hands and I’m afraid has really gone downhill. Despite booking, we were squashed onto a small dog friendly table with our two dogs, when we asked if there was a bigger table, more at the edge of the room as one of our dogs was reactive, we were told they were fully booked (we were the only ones in at this point) fifteen minutes later a small group of people arrived, they hadn’t booked, but were shown to a large corner table with their dog. When I asked why they had been given that table and we were told it wasn’t available, the ‘manager’? told me the staff member must have been mistaken about being fully booked! No one else turned up for another hour, just as we were leaving! Now let’s get on to the food, it was so disappointing, we had brought my mum as a special treat as she hardly goes out and we had convinced her telling her the food is always lovely. The beef was practically inedible, some pieces were so chewy even the dogs struggled with it. Mum and myself managed half of one slice each. The roast potatoes were dry and the parsnips were hard. Absolutely gutted, the search begins again for a dog friendly pub serving a decent Sunday roast
We had a wonderful family meal at this restaurant. One of the diners has Celiac disease, but it was no issue as they have separate fryers for gluten-free items. The menu is extensive and the food is delicious. We especially enjoyed the homemade steak pie, it was awesome.
