The Sherman - Batesville

The hotel is a stunning historic establishment. It's within a reasonable walking distance to various attractions. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Highlights of the hotel include its romantic atmosphere and peaceful setting.

I'm all for celebrating German heritage—I took Herr Koors' classes and even traveled to Germany with him—but the atmosphere feels more like a German-themed bar than a true bier hall. Now, onto the food. It definitely has bar food vibes, which makes sense since it's a bar in the back—well done on that front. I ordered the Pool Hall Cheeseburger, but I advise against getting just the bier cheese option; it’s terrible without cheese. I had to assemble my own burger and pour the cheese myself, but it just didn’t stay on the burger, lacked flavor, and caused my bun to fall apart. If I wanted to eat at a bar, I would have stayed in Oldenburg and gone to the Pub instead. I don't understand the reasoning behind this business decision; it’s a disappointing move that doesn’t honor the restaurant formerly known as the Sherman.

I discovered a hidden gem through Google Maps! We drove from St. Louis to Ohio to pick up a much-needed boat part, and we wanted to stay at a nice place on our way home. After searching for historic hotels, we found this one. The room was absolutely perfect—fresh, clean, new, and welcoming, with a bed, linens, and pillows that deserve a perfect score of 5. We also enjoyed the live music and delicious food at the Beer Garden. Definitely try the sauerkraut balls—they're delicious! Rooms: 5

We thought this place was so interesting!! We got to talk to the owner about the time and effort that went in to recreating the buildings historical charm. They chose colors and decor that complements the time period and spent extra care preserving the original woodwork. The rooms are updated to modern standards, so don't worry!! The bathrooms are clean and updated as well. The Staff all greeted us with smiles. We had a wonderful weekend stay. If I had to pick on anything... it would be the mattresses...omg they are firm firm with a side of FIRM... Like laying on the floor firm. That's minor at best though and we will definitely go back to stay there whenever my husband's work has meetings and parties in Batesville. Thank you!!
