The outdoor area is a total triumph and the boxing hare pizza stall is a brilliant idea and serves delicious wood fired pizzas at a very reasonable price. This place has the vibe of the john Hewitt circa 2003 Pedro really knows how to run a great bar. There is always a great selection of beers on tap and plenty of interesting entertainment. The decor is very relaxed with plenty of old bar memorabilia to look at and even an old barber chair. There are often events in the upstairs space and downstairs regularly has live music. If you're looking for the latest tunes and a fancy cocktail list then this probably isn't the place for you but if you want good beer, great craic and some laughs with your chums then the sunflower is the spot.
Unassuming little dive bar with a great back patio. Fresh Za was excellent and the New England IPA was a pleasant surprise. My friend stepped into a puddle of urine in the bathroom or else this would've sealed a 5 star rating. Chef recommends!
I 'll start by admitting this is a biassed review, biassed because I love the place! Hidden in a pretty quite part of town, the original caging round the door harks back to the dark days of Belfast, but inside you 'll find nothing but joy. The downstairs bar is pretty small, so if you manage to get a seat you are on to a winner, but there is also a much bigger space upstairs for live music and events and recently they have up cycled the yard out the back for a cracking smoking area/ garden which is going to be heaving in the summer. They even have a little tent out there making pizzas at the weekend, which were pretty darn tasty. When I was there there was also live traditional music, which created such a lovely vibe the 'one pint ' we popped in for ended up being 'stay til closing time ' that says it all!
Visiting Belfast w a dog in tow, Vinny (the aforementioned dog) needed a place where he could get tons of attention whilst I watched the rugby. Recommended in another place as one of two dog friendly places in the city, in we rolled. Small room and w bar w many local craft ales, including a delicious porter from Yardbird. Vinny chilled out on a seat, was petted and served water. He even made a new doggy friend. We watched the rugby and chatted w locals. Great craic and very mellow. In the yard outside they serve pizzas on the weekend which looked good. We left before the apparently great live music, but only as Vinny needed dinner. One day we'll be back for that...
Great wee pub tucked away in the back streets of Belfast. My first time going here and I was pleasantly surprised at the homely atmosphere this pub has. There was a traditional band playing in the corner and it took me a while to realise that it wasn't a background tape as they were very unassuming and not loud and in your face which I loved. I have been told there is amazing pizza and a great beer garden to investigate which I unfortunately didn't get a chance to experience this time but something I will definitely be going back to.
