Stick to Awafi with an i (or El Jannah). Awafy with a y is pretty poor Lebanese chicken, quite tough and tasteless (except the garlic sauce which was great). The chicken seemed pretty small and the 1/2 chicken plate was stingy on the pickles so it didn 't fill out the bread the way that El Jannah 's (cheaper) equivalent does. Within Belmore, Awafy is slightly cheaper than the Greek chickens at Nostimo next door but Nostimo is far better.
A never before visit to Belmore was a very pleasant surprise. My husband and I walked up and down the local strip shopping area looking for somewhere to have lunch , it was quite a vibrant place at lunch time on Tuesdays, lots of people around. We chose Awafy, because it was modern, clean, air conditioned and the menu looked interesting. We had a mixed plate to share, which had 3 meat skewers in a Lebanese bread pocket marinated chicken x 2 and one lamb , Lebanese bread, BBQ fresh tomato and onion pieces, colourful pickles and two dips. We also ordered a small tabouli as a side. The chicken had a lovely smoky flavour I didn’t try the lamb as I don’t eat much red meat , the dips were delicious especially the garlic, and the tabouli was so fresh, like it had just been made. And the pickles were crisp and crunchy. Servings were quite generous, with plenty of warmed fresh Lebanese bread to mop up. Overall a delicious healthy meal with leftovers for dinner. I also appreciated that the staff had removed the skewers from the meat, it might seem a small thing but it made the meal easier to eat I have osteoarthritis in my hands . I was also very impressed with their Covid plan, they even had wash basins at the front of the shop to wash your hands and dry with disposable paper. The modern well designed cafe had funky brick common walls and timber banquette seating on one side and tables and chairs on the other, well spaced. Awafy has a wide centre aisle so anyone walking in to order takeaway was well away from those dining in. You order and pay at the food counter and they bring the food to your table.
Chicken was moist and tender, chips were great too. Salad was fresh and service was ok. Good for groups Value for money
Ive been here several times. Chicken rolls are nice. Service can be a bit hit and miss. Decor could improve as its very basic. People come for the chicken and it is good..
