Slate Café is a cute, cozy cafe located in JP Nagar. The concept behind it is that, people in our busy times tend to forget what real conversations mean, here at Slate cafe, you can have a fun conversation and also doodle with chalks, bringing out the inner child in you. They are pet friendly too. <br/ <br/ To begin with, I had a word with chef Sarvesh who is also the owner of the cafe and got to know about the menu. He has taken Indian food and merged it with Mediterranean and continental cuisine. Each dish has a unique presentation and there’s a twist. <br/ <br/ We started off with the soup, I had the mush-take soup which was warm, comforting, a tad high on the garlic flavour but delicious nevertheless. My friend tried the Mad-Ras soup and he absolutely loved it, it had lots of chicken pieces and had a spicy kick to it.<br/ <br/ Moving on to the appetisers I tried the Pune masala pav which arrives very differently to what you’d expect. Not pav buns with a side of gravy here, folks. It had pav bun bites soaked in the bhaji, unique and scrumptious. The shakshuka that I tired here was delicious too. It wasn’t like the usual chunky traditional shakshuka but had a creamy egg based gravy topped with the fried eggs of course. <br/ <br/ The drinks could have been better for sure. The brownie shake didn’t have the necessary chocolate flavour and the Brownie pieces on top were a bit dry. The strawberry mojito as well needed more strawberry flavour in it. The cold coffee was good though. <br/ <br/ The pizza too was a little average, I would expect more flavour in it and the veg kheema gravy instead of pizza sauce didn’t make sense to me. <br/ <br/ The three cheese ravioli was good. It had cottage cheese or paneer, processed cheese and cheddar cheese in it. Would have been better with some Parmesan instead of processed cheese but the pasta was well made and cooked properly, <br/ <br/ In non veg my friend highly recommended the “Holy Mother of God” which consisted of chicken simmered in a bhoot jalokia or ghost chilli sauce, wasn’t too spicy and tasted really good according to him. <br/ <br/ The peri peri chicken and chapli kebab were decent.
My husband has been here a few times and was really after me to try this place. So went there for lunch with hubby one weekday. Tried the Pune masala paav (I am from Pune, so the name was a definite lure) and it was SO good. the hit of butter and pav-bhaji taste on the first bite was just too good. We also tried the misal pav. Did not like this much. It is very different from the misal pav we get in Pune. It was thicker consistency and it did not have that typical misal taste I am used to. But it was tasty nonetheless. The railway chicken cutlets were good. We packed the mediterranean burger for the son. Tried a bite from it and it was OK-ish. The chickpea cutlet was very hard and not very tasty. We also had the cold coffee which was nice and thick (and strong because I asked them to make it strong).I really do want to go back for the pune masala paav and few other items that looked nice on the menu. The ambience is very cute as well (plus it is walkable from my work place)
Went to slate café yesterday with a friend.. the new menu that has been launched this year is very interesting... it’s a fusion of Indian and continental food<br/ <br/ We went for half portion of the dishes in order to try out a lot of the dishes for the review. So quantity is double as in the pics. I had the Mad-Ras soup first which was a Chettinad style spicy soup.. I really enjoyed it as it was spicy and warming and there was a lot of chicken pieces in the soup which was plus point. My friend tried mush-take soup which was good too. In starters we tried the Pune Masala pav which had a different presentation from the normal masala pav and tasted good too, spices were well balanced. The peri peri chicken strips and spicy chapli kebab were decent. <br/ <br/ Stand out was the “Holy Mother of God” which consisted of chicken cooked in ghost chilli sauce with rice and veggies. It was perfect, would give 5/5 for that any day. The sauce wasn’t too spicy as you would anticipate but slowly warms the throat after a while. Shakshuka was awesome too, it was flavoured properly. Mexicana pizza, brownie shake and strawberry mojito were again decent. Three cheese ravioli was yummy, sauce was having the thick and creamy consistency and pasta was well cooked.Cold coffee to finish with was well made with strong coffee flavour <br/ <br/ Service is very friendly and the owner comes and attends to each table which gives a personal touch. Definitely recommend...
A great place to read. They have some nice books. The music is great for reading. I am so grateful for the cafe being here near my home. Am going to frequent this place. The owner and staff are very attentive and polite. I love the idea of open kitchen too as it gives a homely feel. I would like it more if the cafe had more exhausts so that the smoke from the kitchen goes out instead of comjng to the dining area.
