Have ended up going to this restaurant at least once a week since they opened under their new name (the same owners owned the mexican restaurant across from the Piggly Wiggly in Liberty Park) It seems that we 'll never get tired of going to 'Leon 's ' as there are so many unique but equally delicious and well-prepared items. Before going to Leon 's, I 've only been able to find such good food at El Barrios or Sol Y Luna 's. Now I 've 3 great places. But, I have to say that the best and most consistent service has been at Leon La Taberna. Don 't be mistaken, while we love the more traditional and unusual Mexican dishes here (mostly listed on the right-side of the menu), there appear to be many of the more typical tex-mex items too.
Good Mexican. We have been twice and enjoyed the food both times. The Margaritas are excellent and both meals where great. The previous review mentioning the Queso with Chorizo is DEAD ON. Its on the menu as Queso Fundido and you can add Chorizo and other toppings. Its fantastic and a big serving for a two person appetizer. The shredded pork dish, number 47 I believe, is very good. If you like a little heat the Camarones a la Diabla is good and it comes with a wonderful corn salsa. Overall a nice addition to Liberty Park and it was needed after the previous Italian place at this location closed down.
Stopped in on trip to Birmingham and were pleasantly surprised at our good luck. The food was nicely presented and delicious. We had combo plates with chicken and it was moist and tender. Chips and salsa was spicy and delicious. Quicamole Mexican was fresh, made with chunks of avocado, onions, tomato, and cilantro. We will be back.
Fast service, great food, decent prices. Would recommend the 23. On the menu. Enchilada, burrito, and taco.
