The Olympia - Blaenau Gwent

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The staff were unhelpful and seemed more interested in arguing than resolving any issues. The lasagne I ordered was still frozen, and when they reheated it in the microwave, they handed me a scalding hot plate without a napkin. I burned my fingers and the waitress laughed when I asked for her name. The manager then rudely interrupted our family conversation to inquire about our complaints. The desserts were served in dirty bowls and when we sent them back, they came back with a minimal amount of ice cream. The food took a long time to arrive and the overall quality has declined over the years. It was a disappointment especially since it was my father's first outing in 18 months and he had dressed up for the occasion. Despite the negative experience, I believe some serious staff training is needed. The only positives were the curry and the improved popadoms.

I had a halloumi burger with chips. The bun was small and cheap, buts what you get at weatherspoons though, isn’t it? Hardly any salad in it, and it looked like it was done in a rush. The chips were alright though. I have found that the food is very hit and miss here, and overdone items will be sent out in the hope that we’ll just get with it. If we complain the attitude of some staff is a great big can’t be arsed, and that’s the consistent problem with this venue. They get away with it, and so will not up their game. We’re not asking for the Earth. Just some professionalism and a bit of effort. If you mess something up, don’t send it out. And if there’s a complaint, look a bit sorry and try to fix it the best way that you can. Not the easiest, cheapest way. Very poor.

Had a steak last night which was good but my onion rings were missing and I had the tiniest mushroom grilled to death, asked the guy who brought our meals about the onion rings and he shrugged said out of stock and just walked off. Went to the bar to ask why I’d been charged for them if there aren’t any and again I got a shrug and was told I could have extra mushroom instead which I agreed to as by now the rest of the meal was getting cold. The guy brought me a bowl with raw mushroom slices in it! My partner went back to the bar with these, by the time I got cooked mushrooms I’d finished my meal and there was no way I was going to eat them for fear of them having been spat on or worse.!Staff take no pride and seem like just being there is a massive inconvenience to them. To be fair I have had some nice meals here but there’s always some issue or another, usually items missing from the meal. Come on guys put a bit of effort in, it’s not difficult I’m not expecting Michelin stars it’d just be nice to have a basic meal without having to go back to the bar for something every time!

I ordered a BBQ chicken burger with chips, the chicken was cold not even hot enough to melt the cheese and the chips were hard,oily and burnt. If I hadn't waited so long for the food to arrive and needed to be somewhere I would have sent it back. The boy waiting tables cleared my husband's plate away while I was still eating the rubbish I had been served, this just isn't done. (Needs training). When leaving I noticed lots of people had left the burnt chips on their plates so it wasn't a one off.

I went here (after being let down by Brewers Fayre) not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Food was good, service was swift, all staff friendly and helpful and of course being a Weatherspoons it was cheap as chips.
