Freckled Hen Cafe - Boroondara

I had a simple meal at this restaurant, ordering the pulled pork with apple and poached egg. It was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is cozy and the service is fantastic. I hope it continues to thrive!

Have been to this cafe twice and both times the food was fresh and really tasty. Reasonably priced and great service.

Sadly, the Freckled Hen has undergone a transformation. What used to be a delightful place for afternoon tea has morphed into something more generic. It no longer has a point of difference in this cafe laden strip, and unfortunately it's not a standout, so I won't be returning.

I love visiting The Freckled Hen, usually with my dog, after my daily walk around Surrey Hills. I am always made to feel special here and their food is fresh , plentiful and absolutely delicious ! The coffee is strong and rich, and if you order a large one its served in the prettiest crockery with big floral napkins accompanying the food. The owner Leslie is doing a fantastic job of keeping the high standard of cleanliness and service to a five star level at all times. I have even had a birthday party here and it was a huge hit with my girlfriends ! Do yourself a favor and check it out next time you are in Surrey Hills. ( The High Tea is worth booking for your next event)

My teen daughter and I came here to have a bite to eat on our way out to the dandenongs for a couple of nights. I was telling her how we used to come to this cafe when she was a little baby 13 years previously and it was lovely. Of course, it has changed but I would say for the better! I enjoyed the best salmon tart I have ever had made with the most perfect pastry crust and light filling. It came with a beautiful summer salad with lettuce, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and grapes and a delightful oil based dressing. Molly enjoyed a customer made sandwich with fresh roasted chicken breast pieces, avocado and cheese on some artisan type bread. We both ended with a sweet, me with the pistachio and raspberry gluten free cupcake and Molly with a delightful vanilla cupcake which was heavenly... So much so glad we took 2 away for grandparents too. Staff were attentive and friendly in this family run cafe. I will go out of my way to come here again as I have to say this is our favourite cafe in Melbourne.
