Shanghai Restaurant - Brantford

In recent years have tried a few places in the city and although this was the most expensive, I thought I would try. It means they've been over 55 years, so I thought they had to be good. They obviously have their fans... to be so long, but I'm not one of them. With delivery, almost $70 for what in other places is $45-$50. The sweet and sour sauce was darker than I've ever seen in every restaurant, she almost looked like blood. It was more savory than sweet. The delivered bag was wet on the bottom and on the side that chow had mine and made everything wet inside. The dough on the chicken balls was hard. There were enough for four good portions, like I throw three more if I didn't even like it, I don't know, but that would be a lot of money to throw out. Everything seemed fresh, the man on the phone and the deliveryman were polite, but I honestly can't think of a worse Chinese meal I've ever had. The food dish at the Chinese Shopping Centre is better. Never again will I order from this place. Total waste of money.

I enjoyed the Chinese food in this restaurant since I was in school. I always find the food delicious, service fast and staff friendly.

My husband and I got take out from here on December 31. We ordered it at 4:30pm they said it would take an hour so we waited. After that hour had passed I had to call two more times to see we're it was. The...first time they said it was just sent out after I made sure they had the right address. The second time I called they manager said oh sorry it was just made fresh as the address was mixed up. So we got our meal at 8:30pm. They never called once to explain any of this. We will not be order from them for a long time. Very unhappy with there service. We only live 5 minutes away.

For about 40 years I have been going to this restaurant, and for 40 years they have served great food for great value with ample serving size. Having moved 2 hours away from the area, I try to get back at least a few times...a year to dine here it 's that good. Recently bought by a new owner, Rob, who introduced himself to us on our first visit. Very personable fellow! He is also very wise, as he has kept the same personnel as before (Mary is a terrific waitress! including the cook. I highly recommend the number 6 plate of chinese food, which is heaped high with chicken (breast soo guy, chicken balls, chop suey, and chicken fried rice and an egg roll. An incredible edible! We have stopped in with many different friends/relatives and everyone has always marveled at the taste and value of the Shanghai. It is far from fancy (although Rob has spruced the place up recently with fresh paint but it is the food you 're coming here for, not the ambiance. Naturally they do takeout, and a few times I 've ordered and taken it 2 hours to home. I can vouch the takeout portion size seems the same as the dining in size more than one should eat! If you 've never been here, try it once... and you 'll be back.

Have not been here in some time. Ordered take out supper from here. Ordered the number 1 and 7 and figured it would be enough for 2. The portions would have fed at least 3-4 people. The food for take out came out within 10...minutes or less. The food was extremely hot when it was home (excellent). The food taste was very good. Would recommend this restaurant for take out. You will not be disappointed. Went back the next night to order for to supplement the leftovers from the night before. Will be coming back again. The individual taking my order was very friendly and provided good input on what to order. Restaurant does take debit.
