When it comes to food and drinks, the prices are on the higher end for average fare. On a positive note, the staff are consistently friendly and hardworking, and they truly deserve to be recognized for their efforts. This is an excellent hotel with top-notch food. It’s a fantastic spot for both dogs and kids. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Highlights: Luxury, Quiet, Family-friendly, Great value.

Starting with the cosmetic issues: our bathroom had black mold in the shower and faulty silicone. We stayed in the Lodge, where we found curtains that didn’t hang properly and a leak in the spa treatment room that caused brown water to drip into the shower from the ceiling. We also had an ironing board but no iron. Since the Lodge is a 15-minute walk from the main hotel, they refused to send anyone over to assist us between 8 PM and 9 AM, leaving us with a crumpled shirt for the evening. Beyond cosmetic concerns, there are serious health and safety issues. The uneven concrete in the parking lot has caused significant damage to our car and poses a danger to pedestrians. The lack of warning signs, such as traffic cones, indicates sheer negligence. Management appeared to be aware that this is a recurring problem but seemed unwilling to take responsibility or make necessary repairs. They attempted to portray themselves as a charity, but in reality, it is run for profit by the same owners as the Athenaeum, with the day-to-day operations managed by the Luxury Family Hotel group. The parking situation is also terrible; it gets excessively crowded on weekends, forcing guests to utilize an alternative parking area near the butler's quarters and maintenance workshops. Management might argue that we weren't forced to park there, but why designate a hazard-prone area as a car park without taking action to address the safety concerns? A simple traffic cone would suffice until proper repairs can be made. They admitted they were aware of similar complaints from other guests, making it even more perplexing that no action has been taken. Overall, these issues significantly tarnished our stay, even though the staff serving food and drinks were delightful. In summary, the rooms need more than just a coat of paint. Interesting building, fantastic grounds, other than that a bit shabby, rundown, slack service, cleaning and security. Having said all that, the sun shone so I enjoyed it.

Had a great stay. It is a truly family friendly place and the nursery and children's library were a big hit with our little girl. The grounds and building itself are stunning and service was great. Pool was nice and warm with lots of floaties. Dinner was excellent, lunch a bit limited so would advise going out for it. Afternoon tea needs to be booked in advance. They say dogs aren't allowed off lead but there are safe places to let them off nearby. Changing facilities at the pool a bit limited and access involves going outside so using the robes probably the best option. Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 5
