It's a unique place. Very historic with a lot of iconic old writers gathering there in the past. The place still has it's feel of old richness. It looks like s long train carriage in demensions. Waiters wear very traditional blue gold threaded gowns. They serve alcohol which is very unusual but common for downtown places like this and others that still exist since the hay day of downtown in the 20s-70s. They have an eclectic menu of home cooking and bbq items. Tried macaroni w bachamel sauce and dolma leaves. Both were good. It's a place where you come to study, chill or have an artistic meeting. Customers are much older and seem to be coming here for ages. The younger crowd is an eccentric one just from the look of them. I was neither not, just a passer by.
Can't say enough about this place. If you come to Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo, this place is a must to eat here! Authentic Egyptian cuisine in a beautiful historical building. This place has been here for 100 years and can be here a 100 years later! From service to food, Cafe Riche is 5 stars!
Thanks to our Egyptian colleague Karim Khalil who uncovered this place with its unique rich cultural history. We learned that it used to gather generations of Egyptians thinkers and creatures in many branches of Arts, such as writers, actors, singers and others. Now it is a nice café restaurant where you can have a bite with a glass of local wine of excellent quality. If you read Arabic, you will find inside an excellent book entitled Rich Café, an Eye on Egypt . Ask the lady on desk for it. Absolutely recommend.
Food was fantastic and the hosts were charming. A beautiful, classic and very vintage Old cafe with a lot of character. Lovely place to spend an evening with friends.
