Don't judge a book by its cover I'm sorry to say that's exactly what I did and have missed out on some really good food.
I should have taken the time long ago. I've been coming here for years and without getting into details they bar none have the best seafood dishes in Calgary. Other than fresh oysters or lobsters in a tank the King Fisher has poached grilled and deep fry to offer. Their signature deep fried calamari with hot sauce is 10 out of 10. Their signature shrimp and scallops with cream sauce is 10 out of 10. Just try their orange roughy fish and chips for just 15 bucks. 10 out of 10. They usually have a unique fish of the day special as well. Not much of a place to see as it is small with not much seating. No booths, no ambiance, or character. If your out for delicious seafood dishes you will not find better.
I used to come to The Kingfisher a lot in the past when the original owners used to run it.I have not tried it for some time because my clients are out by the airport and I started staying out by the airport and eating there. My friend Jean and I decided to try it again. My associate and I tried the seafood combo at $27 which is a deal. The seafood was fresh and delicious and the sauce was very flavourful. Jean had Prawn and scallop at $19.95 which is another deal. She said her meal was delicious. The new owners are very friendly and helpful and will do what they can to give you a good experience. Will go again next year!
My co workers and I went here for lunch last Thursday. Located on the corner of 4th and centre street. It's upstairs. We had the squid and I have to say it's the best I have ever had! We had squid and then shrimp and scallops. Service excellent, prices reasonable. I will go back next trip to Calgary.
