Pita Basket Cafe - Calgary

Ok... I can not say enough about this place! I haven't been here in almost 6 months (we live 700km away) and we were greeted like old friends ... pita and babganoush were made fresh for us as we're the meat pie and cheese pie for the kids. Sharma was so tasty and stuffed with the perfect ratio or meat and veggies.

This shop is awsome. Great service great food. My wife and agree for once on this place. The owners do an awsome job. Other restaurants should take notes in my opinion. On a side note Do not eat at the location in chestemere. It's not ran by the same family and is a franchise.

VIP plate was not only perfect in taste, it was also in presentation. I was served on a wooden board a plate prepared with details and quality of ingredients. The olive oil was tasty, the decoration with hot pepper powder was felt just right. The selection of drinks available included one particular yogourt drink I like to have with such meals - not all Mediterranean restaurants have it.

Being someone who's from the Middle East, I find it incredibly difficult to find an authentic Arabic shawerma place. There are tons of Canadian-ized ones and mixed cuisine restaurants but very few really hit the mark. This place did. I got the mini shawerma dish with fattoush salad which was actually two saj shawerma sandwiches per order - its the way they cut the sandwich that gives the name mini, not the quantity (see pics) - for $11.50 + $1.50 for the salad upgrade. The meal tasted delicious and presentation was great. Unfortunately the shawerma was very greasy but if you aren't having this daily it might be ok. I would suggest the owners make it less greasy and add a bit more Arabic spices (boukharat) and that would make the shawerma perfect. The fattoush was on point. Pita basket had a variety of other authentic options such as shish tawook, kofta, manaeesh, kunafa, basbousa, petit four, "rum bun" and so on. I'll definitely be back to try other options!

We were exploring Sunrise when we found this restaurant called Pita Basket. We got Chicken and Beef Shawarma and it was the yummiest Shawarma we have eaten. After we ate Shawarma, we got sweets like Cake and Baklawa
