The Hildyard Arms - Catterick

Camped in the garden here for free as a Coast To Coast hiker (perhaps 50 mins walk beyond Richmond centre, right on the trail). The landlady and landlord were very friendly as were other punters in the pub. There's a shower room and toilet around the back which was very nice. They weren't serving food the evening I was there but they set us up with the local takeaway and let us use their dining area, cutlery etc. and we ate like kings. Service: 5

I spent the first night out camping, which is free. I arrived after the pub was closed and decided to setup camp in the back. I took a day break here on my coast to coast. As I awoke the next morning it was down pouring. The Owner came to check on me multiple times and was extremely kind and welcoming showing me around the place. I spent my last night in the hut and it was absolutely wonderful and well worth it! Making yourself a hot cup of tea, charging your devices and a warm clean bed is all ones needs. The huts are cozy and well kept and the locals at the pub were friendly. Plus there's a shop to restock less than 5 minutes up the road

Unfortunately this place has gone massively down hill, popped in yesterday for a drink, the glasses were dirty, the wine tasted like it had been watered down. 4 drinks were ordered and 3 were tipped away before we left for somewhere else

DO NOT USE, they scammed us of £100 we traveled 100 mile to there shepherds hut for them to say its already booked then wouldnt give us a refund weve tried and tried to get one but no luck, the environment there is awful me and my girlfriend walked in everyone stopped talking and staired immediately my girlfriend wanted to leave because they made her feel uncomfortable worst place I’ve visited in this country.
