Il Casone - CAVA DE' TIRRENI

Il Casone seems to be a popular restaurant in Cava de' Tirenni, but it is also an Agriturismo, which is how we first found it 13 years ago. We had a wonderful time then, having been made to feel welcome, and had enjoyed the hospitality of the owners and the wonderful food at their onsite restaurant. We recently found ourselves back in the area and wondered if we would be able to find this place again. Searching google, and then searching the winding, twisting, inclining roads of Cava, we did in fact find it once more. This is not a place for the meek of heart to drive to consider yourselves warned. But it is absolutely worth it. Il Casone was exactly as we remembered it, and the owner, Claudio, was in fact still there with his wife and now grown children. It seems to be the children who have largely taken over running the business. We were welcomed as heartily as the first time, and stayed for three nights. Our room was one of two that is accessible by climbing up a spiral staircase from their open office space off the dining room then going outside and taking a second staircase to ultimately reach our destination. It is all part of the charm of this absolutely wonderful place. Breakfasts are included, the usual Italian type breakfast of coffee and croissant. Dinner is extra, and worth every Euro. Two nights we just went with the buffet selection, trusting our hosts to put together plates for us, which were simply fantastic. One of the nights we wanted something more substantial, and went for a meat dish with a contorni on the side. Every time we were far beyond satisfied. I do hope this place will be around for a long time, as I wouldn't mind coming back again should I find myself in this region once more.

The room is rustic and cozy, fast service and the available and very kind waiters. Yes eat well and at prices more than acceptable, sin for the absence of menu!

Together with a couple of friends we thought of returning to this restaurant after so many years of absence and the problem was always the same: the food is of good level, but the stunned note is too slow of service. good starters, first good and excellent selection of meat. the prices not from farm but now are few to practice them.
