Da Gino - CEGLIE MESSAPICA

We were somewhat disappointed with this restaurant as we had high hopes for it. The food was average, but the service was excellent. It is probably a better restaurant if you are a meat eater, rather than a pescatarian as we are.

We arrived at the da Gino 's restaurant as a result of the recommendations received from Trullo San Rocco where we spent a few days of summer vacation. I was with my family for lunch and although there is no functional air conditioning and no terrace in the true sense of the word, the air was breathable and the atmosphere very pleasant, mainly due to the very large open windows and the airy dining room with high ceiling. A maximum note for the cool and shaded parking lot covered by a wonderful green pergola with flowers and hanging plants. The food was absolutely wonderful with many delicious typical local dishes, the proof of authenticity being confirmed by the many Italian guests, no doubt locals from Ceglie Messapica, who had lunch in the restaurant on that day of August 23rd, 2021. Orecchiette and pasta in general represent the highlight of the menu, along with the brain of the lamb and the rabbit slowly cooked in wine that were delicious. We know, we appreciate and understand the atmosphere of southern Italy, we love Puglia, we love the return in the '70s ' 80s atmosphere, but with all sympathy we recommend the owners a minimum update of the place that can be considered a keeper and one of the succesors of the Apulian gastronomic treasure. The prices are low, too low in our opinion for the days and times we live in, that 's why we always recommend everyone to be generous with the young people who work in such authentic places that make our holidays beautiful. We ended here for a lunch after a tip from a local guide, who even arranged with the owner to have the place open a bit earlier than usual for us because our three starving (read: cranky) children. The antipasto here is worth a trip itself, we ordered everything and truly got it, about a dozen antipasti, each better than the last! The kids loved the place because the staff is very child-friendly and despite the Michelin-guide recommendations this is clearly a family place, they’ve even got a childrens playroom at the trullo in the back of the restaurant. The price is really not that bad considering the quality, you’d expect more expensive from a place this good.

Lunch for the family party consumed with serenity in bright and airy atmosphere. very kind waiters and patients both with children and adults. next to traditional dishes small nuances with special ingredients. we enjoyed everything: the food and the atmosphere.

Very nice restaurant and especially very characteristic. attention to details with many wooden displays that recall our landscapes of the perfect welcome puglia, very kind staff, in a way and very professional both from the big waiters to the lower floor and the smaller. at the end of the entrance someone who requires the greenpass. characteristic appetizers, I highly recommend them, and served in particular, attach photos. a point in their favor is certainly bread: hot served panetto, a freshness out and an extraordinary softness inside. Sure, you want to impress someone, this is the right place. the first dishes a bit 'slow and redundant, I would suggest to add something different from the sauce' perhaps remaining on the traditional. wide variety for second dishes and desserts. I was very happy both of the food and the service and I will definitely return but I will try the mixed roast.
