Like others that have written on this site, I have been a member of this club for 15 years since it absolutely raged at lunch and dinner as the Gordon Rugby Club with a fully functioning restaurant that at its peak easily did well over 200 covers a day. After a disastrous visit of about six months ago, I thought it only fair to return and try it again. Alas it has gone from bad to worse. The restaurant was technically "closed" and I was advised that's the way it would stay for a couple of months "because they were looking for a new chef"! Instead the only choice was about seven (I suspect frozen and commercially purchased) steamed dumplings very ably steamed by the young, friendly and capable barman. This place does feature very friendly staff, however with the three staff I only noted three customers in the two hours we were there - and no one else ate there for the entire lunch period - and that was a Friday - which surely should be their busiest lunch day!!!Admittedly, the dumplings were tasty and cheap. However with over twenty dumpling places in Chatswood, I wonder how many people bother going up to the fifth floor of a commercial building and have to bother with the rigours of club membership or being signed in - when they can just stroll into something on busy Victoria Ave and have three times the variety at similar prices! All very sad really!
Pearl is a club, with one side full of gaming machines. The other side is tastefully furnished and very quiet because the once-thriving kitchen now serves only a range of dumplings - or you can get a toasted sandwich at lunchtime, according to the bar staff! Such a shame that what started out under new ownership as a completely revamped Gordon Rugby Club that boasted Mah Jong and fine dining (a large group of us once had a fabulous dinner here) has come to this! But it's still a pleasant enough spot for a quiet drink and nibbles, if that's what you're looking for. And when the weather's nice you can enjoy an al fresco drink or three at one of the rooftop bench tables!
Visited this place with a friend to check out on their special $12 lunch. And had a surprise that $12 lunch was for 2 people. They didn't have much selection but that's what we wanted, as to less confusion to choose.Every dish came with rice. They were tasty and well presented. And the waiter (he was also a bartender) was very polite and friendly with excellent customer service.Recommend this place !!!!!
Sometimes you just stmble into places and get surprised. This place is one of them, my husband loved the dumplings and my soup was just gorgeous I love this type of places, all you need to do is try
We recently stumbled across Pearl, after spotting the sign in the lift on our way up to the cinema. We popped in for a a drink before the movie then went back for a light dinner afterwards. The wine and beer selection was quite good, but the highlight was their range of Japanese single malt whiskies. If you haven't tried one this is your chance! We were too late for a full dinner, but really enjoyed their selection of dumplings, which came with a drink for only $9.90. So good we had another serve (and drink) each! We enjoyed the quiet but sophisticated ambience (once you got past the poker machines in the other room) and the service was very friendly. We plan to go back soon for a proper meal, as the menu looked great. Yes it is a club, but much classier than even an upmarket RSL. Highly recommended.
