Last night was my first trip to The Hungry Brain, but hope to return. I enjoyed the fact that they keep the crowd quiet so we can hear the music. Chicago Edge Ensemble did a great job. You would never have known it was their first live gig together.
In its jazz gigs, the Hungry Brain is almost like a second Velvet Lounge, but it is a lot more to this place then just being a modern jazz venue that pleases me. DIY rock has been embraced there too, and spoken word and comedy acts also had been done too. Fairly dark atmosphere in a style of a pseudo-speakeasy, a digital jukebox with thousands of pop and rock numbers, and colorful Christmas lights to boot. All of this makes me so happy at the Hungry Brain.
Easily the best spot in the city. Everyone is friendly and unassuming. In Chicago!!
Everything's jake at the Hungry Brain! (Been a favorite spot in Chicago since I found it in the 90s.
Essential, relaxed and frequented by those who know.
