Great atmosphere and presentation . Espresso, coffee, and green tea was enjoyable. Avocado toast w sour dough was very good but one avocado toast was not as requested w no oil.
I’ve been a die hard Mom n ‘em fan for about a year now. I said it then and I’ll say it forever, best coffeeshop in the city and honestly my favorite coffeeshop anywhere in the world. 1. Family business, you gotta love it, mom is literally taking your order making your coffee or toastie every time I go in 2. The quality of the coffee and food 3. The vibe of both locations is like big warm hug, and that’s what I look for in any place I frequent I want to feel at home and welcomed. Enjoying a cup of coffee and a bite to eat is about slowing down and enjoying the company you are with, and there is truly no better place to do that at than Mom n ‘em. Ps. Their lunch spot Fausto is a must go to in the city as well!
I absolutely love this coffee shop. It feels like it's in the middle of nowhere (as in there's nothing else immediately around it other than residential) but is 100% worth the trip and drive to check out. You can almost drive right by without knowing it's even there. It has a massive, well thought out patio and really unique inside area that's built out of an old house. Every space on the first floor has a different feel and it's very easy to find somewhere cozy and quiet. Obviously, it's a coffee shop so let's talk about the coffee it's really good. A lot of places within a 5 minute drive of downtown have pretty decent coffee, but I would definitely set this place above most if not for the atmosphere and coffee, for the food. The egg sandwich and avacado toast are honestly the best looking and tastiest I've had at any coffee shop in this city.
It honestly pains me to write this review because I/we love their Madisonville location always a 5 star experience. We came here for Mother's Day and their 4 year anniversary. It was our first time at this location, but we decided to make the drive and give it a try due to the special menu we live closer to the Madisonville location.I feel like people were just as friendly and the service just as good. The food was below their standard at the other location and I thought the portion/cost for the menu was sub par.The porchetta was dry, the exterior was not crunchy like porchetta should be but leathery, and it was not filling it did have decent flavor. The asparagus was cooked just right not overcooked and still some snap. It was $19 for that plate pictured, not including a tip. I would have expected another slice? Or maybe add something else to go with it like potatoes or bread. My father had the classic breakfast which was $16 and it looked quite a bit more filling. The rhubarb danish I had that day was also a little off. The custard was a bit eggy both texture and flavor. Again, disappointing because items like their Pain aux Raisin and their Olive Oil Cake have been great.Coffee was still good, but I think we had expected ceramic ware like the other location. However, we understood the convenience of disposables given most people were outside and it was quite busy.Unfortunate experience here, but that won't deter us from frequenting Madisonville.
