Smashburger - Citrus Heights

I remember when Smashburger burgers were big like gourmet burgers. The flavor is good, but the quality seems to have gone down.

The fries were cold and rubbery and oily. They were not fresh. The truffle mayo was gross. The lettuce was old and wilted. The avocado spread was a bad choice. It was tasteless. The SMASH TOTS were great.

I came an hour before graduation, it's empty, 3 employees and it was about 5 minutes to get my food. Everyone was very polite. Everything was impeccable.

Went to the Roseville location a couple weeks ago. It was spotless. Very impressed. The Citrus Heights location was absolutely disgusting. Most tables were dirty, all garbage cans were completely full. Broken boxes with stuff just stored in the restaurant. Will definitely not be returning. It?s worth the drive to Roseville.

Pre-pandemic this used to be one of my family's favorite burger joints, especially since they offer gluten free burger buns and knew our names and favorites ahead of time! Plus the food was consistently good. But when the pandemic hit this place went downhill fast. I'm guessing it was some kind of management issue as there were never enough employees and a lot of the ones they did have really seemed overwhelmed. The food wasn't great anymore even if you ordered ahead, and the wait time was absolutely bonkers. Seriously our last order in 2021 took 45 minutes! So we decided that until it got better we'd go elsewhere. We've been keeping an eye on reviews and since it looks like there are more positive reviews we decided to at least try again. Glad we did! We ordered online and went to pick it up. The food was already there and ready, and it was back to the same quality as it was before. The girl working the front was nice and friendly, and the place is renovated. Hopefully they're paying the staff well and giving them more hours so this kind of service can continue.
