Írjon visszajelzéstWe stopped by Sumac as we had a yearning for falafel. My wife ordered pickled vegetables and a falafel sandwich and I ordered the falafel sandwich and a lamb gyro sandwich. We received a Meze platter and a side order of pickles and the sandwiches. The stuffed rice grape leaves are served very hot which we were not accustomed to and the lamb gyro had a hot Mayo type dressing. The pitas were a little old. Overall the food was decent but not outstanding. Price was a little steep at $64 (w/credit card fees). The service was excellent and kitchen is very clean.
I’ve eaten here three times so far and always the same order: Lamb Shawarma which comes with a bed of yellow rice, a small mound of salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion , grilled sumac onions, and white tahini sauce. It’s delicious. I also get a side of the seasoned regular fries which are served nice and hot with a side of ketchup. The fries are very good. For my third trip I tried adding another appetizer but was disappointed: “Mediterranean Pickles” which on the menu is described as “An assorted variety of pickled vegetables,” but it sadly turned out to be nothing more than pickle slices. I mean I do love pickles, but 14 pickle slices was a bit too much; that was the only thing that I didn’t finish (I left more pickles wasted than I ate, so that will affect my original 5 rating and bring it down to 4. Sumac definitely serves one of my favorite meals on Staten Island and it’s so much better than any kind of lamb over rice served by a food truck. The customer service is always very pleasant and I really have no complaints about my experiences here other than the misleading menu description for “Mediterranean Pickles.”
Not authentic at allEspecially if you come from the Mediterranean backgroundIf you look for authentic food, go to Astoria in Queens or Paterson in New Jersey
The food is amazing and so authentic with bold flavors. I highly recommend this restaurant.Food: 5/5
Lovely owner and her daughter (I'm assuming it's her daughter), very friendly. Place is small but feels cozy and welcoming. Had a falafel wrap here twice and also my co-worker tried the lamb wrap. They liked it alot.Vegetarian options: Fries and falafel, salads
