El Pollo Loco - Concord

A coupon came with the newspaper and my friend and I decided to try their Street Taco platter since neither of us had ever tried El Pollo Loco before. What a big mistake! The refried beans were a soup with no flavor but enough heat to make our mouths and lips burn. The Spanish rice was also tasteless but also like paste with peppery heat to burn the lips. The chicken was very overcooked and again the tacos were tasteless. How can you have avocados, tomatoes, chicken, Mexican cheese, lettuce and cilantro in a taco and no flavor? A total waste of money and calories. Never Again.

Although I've seen these stores around, I had never tried one till my son asked me to pick up dinner there for six. I was mildly disappointed that we could not phone in an order, but as my son predicted, the order was filled quite quickly in the store. Wings, thighs and breasts were all quite good as were the sides. Not only were they efficient, they honored a senior discount!

This place is fabulous, it has so many different types of food on the menu. Specializing in Mexican-style grilled chicken; burrito, a salad, a quesadilla, a family chicken meal or healthier dining choices

The price and menu selection are reasonable. The crews are friendly and efficient. I'm glad they have this store in Concord.

My family has been dining here for several years, usually anywhere from twice a week to once a month. We order the chicken meals. The chicken is usually always fresh and large pieces, and it's not undercooked or overcooked. Their side dishes are really good. Sometimes we get rice, and it's not too dry like other restaurants. The pinto beans and mashed potatoes are excellent. The Loco Salad with avocado dressing is good. In years past, they didn't keep the tables washed up like they should have, but now they are really attentive to keeping the place, and the tables clean. It's a good place to eat that has healthy choices, at a low price.
