We've been dining at Sonny's since the original Waldo Road location in Gainesville, Florida. This time, we tried both sliced pork and pulled pork. The sliced pork was moist and featured a perfect smoke ring. The ribs were tender and juicy, falling off the bone without being overly fragile. We had one order with a dry rub and the other with a wet sauce, both of which were flavorful with a nice crust. The baked beans continue to be wonderfully unique. The garlic toast was fresh, with a crisp exterior and soft interior. The coleslaw was nicely shredded and had a pleasant sweetness; it arrives at the table first while you wait for the rest of your meal. The sweet tea was fresh and just as good as ever. Overall, this location has been beautifully updated with the latest branding. Our server was attentive and friendly, making for a pleasant dining experience.
I ordered a rib plate with coleslaw and beans, which were tasty. Alongside that, I ordered a sliced pork plate, hoping for the same extras. I also got an Arnold Palmer because it’s my favorite drink. The total came to over $38 online. I was prompted to leave a tip, but I declined. My new motto is: if I don’t get a pup cup, you’re not getting a tip. And since it was takeout, do you really need a 15% tip just to hand me a bag? By the way, the garlic bread I received was ice cold.
I stopped by Sonny's for lunch after a long day of travel. It appears to be a chain barbecue restaurant. The facility was clean and the service was good, but the barbecue itself was just average. I ordered the three-meat platter, which came with baby back ribs, brisket, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Unfortunately, the brisket was a bit dry and lacked any smoky flavor, which was disappointing. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone, and they were pretty enjoyable. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was also quite good. The sides were average. I don't have anything against Sonny's, but I've become a bit of a barbecue snob over time. It was alright overall, and I'd consider eating here again if needed.
This joint exemplifies great service and southern hospitality. We ordered the beef brisket which melted in my mouth, the ribs literally feel off the bone. The Mac Cheese was on point and the beans were both outstanding! We ordered desert and the donut holes did not disappoint. Our waitress was so lovely, attentive, and just simply everything you could ask for ! If you are in the area.. do yourself a favor and stop by this delicious place .
Excellent barbecue! Baby back and St Louis ribs were both great with a slight nod to the St Louis! I even bought a pound and a half to bring home to Michigan! Brisket, chicken and pork were all very good as well! We were surprised at the taste and quality with a just off I-75 food stop! If you 're traveling it 's a great food stop for the family. Quick service and very reasonable pricing! Portions were large also!
