Hilary's Cheese Cowichan Bay

Great value and superb food. Very friendly with lots of artisan products. We had the grilled cheese with soup as a lunch deal and it was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.

After Hilary retired, the place (in my opinion) is going downhill. Stopped there to pick up a couple of sandwiches and was utterly disappointed. The old baguette (no, not the one from next door) was chewy, plastered with mayo and sporting some horribly tasting meat. I could see the cheese but could not taste it. No more fresh lettuce and peppers. Could not finish it ... Did I mention they new owners cranked up the prices as well? Will never go back again.

Great lunch. Great cheese selection. Very simple soup and sandwich place doing things the right way.

Ordered a delicious bowl of Borscht soup with a Genoa salami and Provolone cheese sandwich. Fantastic combination. Enjoyed sitting on the front patio and watch people walking by. Very friendly staff. They have a good selection of cheese to go for picnics and with bread from the local bakery next door is a perfect match.
