I paid $15 and received this dish on untoasted bread. I was disappointed.
With such a kind staff (5 star) and awesome decor (5 star) I really wanted to love the food here but just couldn’t. I have been aware of Angela’s because of their other location in East Boston and have always wanted to try it so came to the Orient Heights location on a whim when we were in the area. The staff is really great and warm and welcoming, and the traditional Mexican decor makes it feel homey but the food is reaaaalllly lacking unfortunately. It’s really is not authentic when you compare to food in Mexico which I’ve had the pleasure to have several times. It always isn’t specifically “Puebla” food, it’s pretty run of the mill Mexican dishes from any state of Mexico. The mole poblano is about the most poblano thing on the menu. When we came in and saw it was empty save for 4 tables of all white families eating (I’m white too so no hate) my first thought “hm…..no Mexicans eating here, will the food be good?” My El Salvadoran husband asked himself the same thing….anyways we were right…the food is VERREEY bland Americanized Mexican food. We got the guacamole, it was SO overly lemony and lacking salt, and for some reason every other table in the place had salt and pepper on the table except ours and we were to ashamed to ask for one hahaha so that is on us….the chips are clearly fried in house but they were way over cooked and filled with oil and had that slightly burnt taste. The salsas they give with the chips and guacamole really appear to be from a jar but I might be wrong but they are def not Mexican salsas de molcajete. I got enchiladas Rojas and my husband enchiladas de mole and again everything was so bland, especially the mole which was hugely disappointing as that is supposed to be a hugely flavorful dish from Puebla. The chicken filling was the most bland, flavorless, pulled shredded chicken…we were so surprised. Anyways being 100% honest we ate it all because it was overall fine, we were starving, it just tasted like nothing… My recommendations for more authentic flavorful Mexican food in MA: -Tenoch (multiple locations-Somerville, Medford, Melrose, etc) -Eloti (multi locations in Revere), -La Oaxaqueña in Everett and Revere -and if you ever find yourself in Western MA, La Veracruzana.
Bomb brunch! Pretty busy during Saturday and Sundays, so brace for a line. Great service!
Very authentic food from Puebla, Mexico. Everything tastes amazing. A bonus is that you can find street parking at this location.
