Baxfood Caribbean - Croydon

My son ordered take-out food for the family which included a red peas soup. The soup looked as if they added water to the bottom of an empty pot and served, it tasted and looked nothing like authentic red peas soup. The boneless jerk chicken and rice and peas was spicy and lacked flavour and seasoning. Fried dumplings were greasy and tasteless. As a person of Jamaican heritage this is not authentic Caribbean food.

My first stop at Purley for food had to be BAXFOOD Caribbean because they had dumplings. You can choose Jerk meat or tofu mushroom as filling so I got the tofu mushroom as not many places offer that. Basically it was like a savoury donut sliced in half and filled with Jerk. It was really tasty with the tofu puffs and mushrooms but I found it quite spicy. The prices on the menu and inside seem to be different.

Ordered from here as it’s in my area, and oh my god, it is the worst Caribbean I have ever had!!! And I have had a lot!!!! Jerk chicken had no substance, felt like there was jerk sauce brushed on top, no deep flavour! The Chicken soup is always my fav, and can normally blast a hangover right out of me, but this soup, just slacked in flavour! Overall, it felt like a random chef had come in and tried to cook Caribbean food! Not authentic Caribbean!! Sooooo disappointed! And I will most likely have to cook or order more food later!!! wasted my money, so thanks !!! Ps I don’t normally do reviews, but I was so curious to see what other reviews was, and I was not disappointed! So felt I had to add to the list of people thinking the exact same! So word of advice, don’t attempt to go here if you are wanting slap dash food!!!

I always order the jerk tofu and mushroom with rice and peas and it’s soooo delicious every time!! my boyfriend usually gets the mac and cheese and says it’s amazing every time as well. i always end up craving baxfood and ordering it on uber eats thanks guys xxx

First time I ordered was a good year or so ago and it was so disappointing I laughed. A year or so ago a pal ordered for delivery even though I advised not to …but we lived in hope… nope same thing… you would of thought I had learnt my lesson but oh no I was over ruled and yep we both had just dry meat .. just so disappointed it’s the only Caribbean delivery up these areas so just wished they got it right but yeah three strikes your out and sooooo pricey as well
