During a road trip to visit Arbuckle Wilderness, we made a stop at the original Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies location in Davis, Oklahoma. Let me tell you, these fried pies were anything but ordinary. They were fresh, generously filled, and utterly delicious. I enjoyed both the sweet and half-sweet options, and they were more than satisfying. Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies offers an extensive selection of delightful pies with various fillings, including breakfast, pizza, apple, chocolate, potato, and cherry, just to name a few. Cooked in peanut oil, each pie costs under $5, and you even get a discount when you order a dozen. The beverages were reasonably priced as well, more akin to convenience store rates than restaurant prices. On a pleasant day, we enjoyed our pies outdoors. I tried the pizza and chocolate pies—though the chocolate one was a bit messy, which is a good sign of its tastiness, right? The parking was a bit of a hassle, but overall, stopping for Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies was definitely worth it.
**Pros and Cons:** **Cons:** - Can get incredibly busy - Service is slow when you order a fresh cake - Staff could be friendlier - Prices are on the higher side - The interior could use some cleaning **Pros:** - The pie crust is truly exceptional, just what you’d hope for - The fruit fillings are rich and sweet, without being overpowering - The cream and cake fillings are tasty, but the sugar can be a bit too pronounced - The meat pies are reminiscent of pancake filling, offering a unique twist - The cream, pudding, and pecan pies might be overly sweet for some - Overall, this place is worth a visit for the delicious crust! Despite some downsides, the excellent pie crust makes this restaurant a unique experience worth trying!
Great cake. I was here when I took my child to the camp. I heard about it, but I didn't come down so often, so I had to try. I have a chicken cake from the hook! Large crust and large filling with exactly the right amount of pepper. Also had an apricot and a chocolate cream... very good. Don't try to drive and eat. Take a few minutes, sit down and enjoy your cake!
Fried Pie Shop is a great place to take a break. This little fried pie shop is an old school treasure. I highly recommend the pecan fried pie or the coconut cream. Their blackberry fried pies are great too. it's definitely worth getting off the highway to try their fried pies.
