Blue Sushi Sake Grill - Des Moines

My family traveled to Des Moines to celebrate my mother and brother-in-law's birthdays. My parents had previously dined at Blue Sushi and had a great experience. We were promptly seated near the bar area, all seven of us including my one-year-old niece. Our waitress was efficient in taking our orders. We enjoyed two appetizers - Brussel Sprouts and Lettuce Wraps. One of my sisters opted for the Beef Hot Rock instead of sushi. Her daughter had some noodles and cucumbers from the water. The rest of us ordered a variety of sushi rolls such as Tidal Wave, Cowgirl, Green Eggs, and Hama, all of which were delicious!

The food was amazing. 4 stars for the difficulty reading the menu, we were in a dark area. If there was a way to have a little more light it would have been 5 stars for atmosphere.

I usually refrain from leaving negative reviews, but my experience at this restaurant was one of the worst I've had. I have had consistent issues with this restaurant in terms of slow service and inaccurate wait time estimates, but this experience was exceptionally bad. The food itself was good, but the service was terrible. It took well over an hour for our food to arrive, despite there being only four other tables seated at the time. Groups that arrived after us received their food before us. We were repeatedly told that our food would be ready in 5 minutes, but it took over 30 minutes for it to arrive. The staff's attempt to make up for the delay was to offer free drinks, even though only two people in our group had ordered drinks. Overall, I was extremely unimpressed with the situation and do not plan on returning to this restaurant.

This restaurant in the Des Moines metro area serves the best sushi, hands down! I am absolutely in love with this place. The sushi exceeded our expectations with a wide variety of rolls. I appreciated that their menus were informative about where their fish comes from. The atmosphere and decor were stylish and trendy, definitely worthy of a photo. The service was amazing; our server was incredibly sweet and happy to recommend her favorite rolls when asked. The selection of sake was extensive, and we particularly enjoyed the sake flights on the menu. The only thing missing was a lychee martini on the drink menu. If I could, I would eat here once a week. We will definitely be back as often as we can!
