However, some later walk-in guests were not so fortunate and had to be turned away. We decided to share the lamb and pork belly, along with a vegetable Wellington. I had hoped to try the traditional beef Wellington, but unfortunately, it wasn’t available on their Sunday Roast menu. The portions for the Sunday Roast were generous—there were plenty of potatoes! The servings were perfect for sharing. I was particularly impressed with the crispy skin on the pork belly, and the lamb was well-cooked, seasoned beautifully with garlic salt. The vegetable Wellington, however, was a bit soggy due to the moist filling. The service was the classic European style—discreet, allowing us to enjoy our meal at our own pace. Overall, I was grateful that Ship Tavern could accommodate us, enabling us to experience a traditional British pub and enjoy a family Sunday Roast. I would definitely recommend Ship Tavern for an affordable Sunday Roast experience.
The Beef Wellington presented upstairs in the restaurant was excellent, which helped offset the unwelcoming attitude of the waitress. The pub on the ground floor has a charming, cinematic vibe, perfectly embodying the essence of an English pub.
I recently had a wonderful dinner with my boyfriend at this cozy and popular restaurant, thanks to making a reservation! I highly recommend securing a reservation here. The food was excellent, bursting with great flavors, and the portion sizes were generous. Be sure to check the current menu, as they offer a special menu on Sundays. The ordering process is done at your table, which is different from typical pub dining. Although the service started off a bit rocky, it improved as the meal progressed. The restaurant is located on the ground level of a beautiful pub, one of the oldest in the area, and is just a 2-minute walk from the tube station.
We dined here at the recommendation of our pub tour guide and it was superb. I has the Beef Wellington with mash and broccolini. It was very flavorful. My wife had the Beef brisket (which she shared). It was incredibly tender and arguably better than my dish. The atmosphere of the pub was outstanding; warm wood paneling throughout. I recommend this pub without hesitation.
I came here with my mom on a sunday evening for dinner. There were quite a few people in the front of the place drinking however we were able to be seated in the corner to eat. Pros: immediately walking in, I was welcomed with a warm cozy vibe. The place was dim giving it a calm setting which I liked. Our food came out piping hot and considering it was cold outside, it was appreciated. My old fashioned was really good as well. Cons: I can't remember what beef dish my mom got but it was really chewy and hard to eat. I thought my mom was being dramatic but I found myself chewing for almost a minute on one small piece of beef. My pie was just ok but I think that has to do more with my American palate then the pie itself. Overall, I personally would only come here for the coziness vibes to grab drinks with friends. I would recommend eating beforehand.
