Kugelgenhaus - Dresden

Although it may not be haute cuisine, it is always interesting to sample the local cuisine, and Kugenhaus offers loads of local specialities of Saxony, authentic and old-fashioned.

We went in expecting the style of sausage we got at the Hofbrau in Munich. All of the "HB" trappings along with the table awnings along the sidewalk fooled us. The style of sausage in this part of Germany is different from that that which is found in Bavaria. We should have known that so it's our fault our expectations were not met. For those who enjoy this style of sausage, I'm certain a visit rates more than 3 stars.

We went in on a normal thursday evening around 19:30u and the place was crowded, this has to be good! ;) And long story short: it was! It looks like we are sitting in somebodies livingroom, lovely! The owner asked us when we sat down, if we have a problem with a longer waiting time because one of the chefs was ill and it could take an hour before we have our diner. No problem, we replaid and begun with a delicious Beer from Munich. After 40 minutes we had our schwein medaillons with fresh mushrooms and Cream, and baked potatoes on the side. My wife had the snitzel and said after one bite: best she have had! Everything was fresh, warm and superb! A must for everybody! Definitely going back next time!

This restaurant is stunning to walk into, you'd think that it was a really posh, expensive place. Archways and bright white walls display paintings, the furniture is beautiful carved wood and the tables were beautifully dressed with fresh flowers. It was quiet when we were there because it was early for an evening meal (about 6.30) so the service was fast. Our waitress didn't speak English but that wasn't a problem, she was very pleasant. The food was simply delicious, I had the fish plate and my husband ordered a chicken dish. It was around 12 euros for each but they were the most expensive items on the menu, most dishes seemed to be around 8 euros. I thought it was excellent value for money and a very enjoyable experience.
