Friendly staff ,lovely food and good value will be back again.
One of my two favourite pubs in Dublin, great food and staff wonderful.
Super fast, friendly service in the middle of a busy lunch hour. Beautiful food. And just across the street from the hospital. Just what the doctor ordered!!
At this stage I suspect there 's a social experiment going on here: They 've taken a team of Michelin star chefs and hid them in a pub on Dorset St. It 's comparable to those youtube clips that show commuters in the Subway ignoring the busker that is actually some world renowned Russian pianist or Bono or someone. Dorset St. provides the perfect subterfuge. It 's ugly. It 's kind of scary. And when you enter W.J. Kavanagh 's you 're going to be put off by the eerie emptiness. You 'll probably want to do the Oh I 'll be back in 5 minutes, must just run to the ATM reverse shuffle... But wait... is that The Grateful Dead playing in the background? Are those real vintage armchairs over there by the fireplace? Is that the wine you thought you could only buy direct source? And can the food really be as good as it appears on the menu? Yes, yes, yes, yes. Today 's vegetarian dish was a cauliflour cutlet a half head of caulifour roasted to perfection, topped with a goats cheese mornay, sitting on a bed of sage scented sweet potato mash, served with roast carrots, red slaw and ginger chutney. I nearly cried. I want this chef. I want him in my kitchen cooking me this food for the rest of my life. And if people don 't start coming to Kavanagh 's it might end up that way. And obviously I can 't afford a personal chef so this will really be indentured servitude, which never seems to work out well for anyone. Look at the Medieval Times a **** mess! Today 's experience at W.J. Kavanagh 's is best put in context by comparing it against a meal I had last week in the famous Chapter One. There was one measly vegetarian option on that latter menu and it was pasta. 6 months to get a reservation at Chapter one and I 'm offered spaghetti? . All the while there is a chef not two streets away doing miraculous things to food (vegetarian and non vegetarian alike) with no one to give it the love it deserves. All this place is missing is people. C 'mon Yelpers. Start sharing the love around. Other Stuff to love about W.J 's: Staff are absolutely lovely, smiley, laid back and genuine You can sit here all day long and no one will give you the evil eye Great wifi Great rainy day pub The background music Bowie, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, The Grateful Dead Bar snacks menu is seriously sophisticated THE SWEET POTATO FRIES, homemade, oven roasted, out of this world Whiskey sours and the cocktail menu in general Vegetarian representation (without alienating the meat eaters) It 'll transport you back to the summer you did the J1 in San Diego (especially if you were renting on the Tijuana side of town) I 'm ending this now because I still don 't feel like I 'm adequately conveying how good W.J. Kavanagh 's really is. Just check it out yourself.
