Overall, it is pretty small inside and a little cramped. The oysters tasted really fresh and they have some of the best clam chowder I've had in the area. The only complaint I have is that the crab cakes were a bit cold when they came out but they were still tasty!
Nothing but great things to say about this place. We were in town and heard it was a must did not disappoint. Sat at the bar, had a great meal, and met some wonderful locals. Make sure this place is on your list when visiting the Providence area!
My partner and I came during Happy Hour one day and luckily found a seat at the bar. The restaurant is very intimate and tables cane be hard to come by if you come during a busy time. After a couple of minutes, we put in our drinks and food, and then watched a parade of oysters and clams being shucked. We ordered 18 $1 oysters and they were some of the best $1 oysters I've had, extremely fresh tasting with a hint of brininess from the water. We shared a bowl of clam chowder as well and it was supreme to all of the other chowders we had sampled in the area recently (Matunuck, Iggys, Brick Alley). It had incredible flavor and had large bits of clams and a good ratio of potatoes. In addition, we shared the sticky calamari and crab cakes. The sticky calamari was unlike any calamari I've had before, it was covered in a balsamic reduction which was sweet and savory at the same time but I was a big fan. The crab cake was delicious as well, jammed pack with crab meat and the portion was healthy. I hadn't been to Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar in a few years but I am already looking forward to the next meal there. The service and food were excellent!
We landed here after leaving another restaurant before ordering dinner due to an extremely bad experience. The hostess, while very busy due to being short staff was super friendly, pleasant and helpful. We waited for a bit for a seat at the bar and was greeted by friendliness from everyone who worked there. Which honestly was balm to a wound after the restaurant we had just come from. We started with 2 each of the 4 featured oysters- fantastic! We went to fried oysters- perfection! I got lobster risotto and I got a little lost on this dish and it was my fault for not reading the fine print. Really it 's 3 seared scallops on a lobster flavored risotto that had little bits of lobster meat in it. It appeared to be a popular dish and I can see why but it wasn 't my thing. I wish the menu read seared scallops on lobster risotto as the headline to this dish. But again completely my fault for being distracted and not reading the fine print. My friend got the salmon special on butternut squash ravioli with a maple bourbon sauce... it looked fantastic! We ended with Pierre Ferrand cognac and creme brulee. Excellent!! Restaurant is small and decorated tasteful! Love the teal walls! We 'll be back for sure!
Truly the best buck of shuck in Rhode Island! Every afternoon at the bar. Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar usually has four types of oysters available for purchase but they select the one to serve for the special today's was Rough Waters from Narragansett Bay. THEY WERE AMAZING!!!! And the guy shucking them was a total pro. First, he could shuck super fast. Second, the oysters were very clean (no little shell bits). Lastly, the oyster shells contained a ton of liquor. The bar is always full but it is worth the wait. Every time we go, we have lively discussions with the other bar patrons. Most are regulars like go every week regulars! So nice. The bartenders are fabulous. Most everyone at the bar was drinking some kind of martini. Our bar mate had a pumpkin pancake shot which was interesting and tasty. Go for the oysters, grab a drink, stay for the conversation and the rest of the food menu! Highly recommend.
