The George Tavern - East Maitland

Awesome meals here. We live nearby so its every second week we go for a meal. The george never disapoints.

Randomly chose to visit The George for a family dinner. Crowded...a good sign! Full range of drinks from the bar...good sign! Had heard rave reviews...good expectations. Meals standard pub food I.e. Too much of the same thing or lacking key ingredients. The roasted pork knuckle is nice but too heavy as it sits on mash with only a few beans to break up the textures. Similar comments from others eating. Still may be worthwhile visiting on a quieter night to see if a bit more attention goes into the meals.

Great schnitzel. A bit up in price but so worth it. Free WiFi. Great selection on tap. Ciders galore. Colouring for the kids.

Walked in on a Thursday night to grab a light meal and found they had "Burger Night" every Thursdays for $12 bucks along with spirits for $5. Not sure of what to order but went for the Shroom burger as I haven't had that for ages and it surely didn't disappoint. It was a fairly large serving and comes with chips on the side but the true winner is the massive mushroom with the special sauce in the burger. It instantly brought back memories back home when we would make the trip of about 2 hours from Manila just to grab a Mushroom burger which is in the vicinity of Tagaytay where a small active volcano is at the centre of Taal Lake. Geez I can't imagine we would drive up there just to get a Shroom burger but luckily now I can just have it close by.
