If you want to enjoy drinks and the lively atmosphere, visit at night when it's more lively. The drinks are unique and tasty, and the food is delicious. Don't be put off by the Asian-inspired menu, as the dishes are well-seasoned and flavorful. I recommend trying the katsu curry, dumplings, fries, and prawn tempura with chili sauce. The service is efficient and friendly. The only issue I had was with the QR code ordering system, but you can always order in person. If you enjoy good food, drinks, and a fun atmosphere, I highly recommend this place. Cheers!
Great range of craft beer, great atmosphere, had some tasty food too. Was an excellent quiz too written by one of staffs Mum, I think, Thanks for a great night
We are regulars here. We have always been told that they don’t take reservations so we arrived at 6.30 to get a table as we were going to a show at the Arts Centre at 8. It was busy downstairs so we headed upstairs. It was also full but a couple sitting at a large table said they were about to leave and we could sit there. We got drinks from downstairs and ordered food from Yuzu. At about 7.10 a bearded staff member came to us and said that the table was supposed to be reserved. There was no sign, the couple had not mentioned this either. We explained that we had ordered food. The man was apologetic but said we had to leave the table. We reiterated that we had ordered food and could not eat it standing up! He said he was sorry and would offer us complementary drinks but we had to go. We had to ask for a refund and leave as it was full. To be fair to the party who arrived at the table they were also incredulous. When we got downstairs a table had become available (the staff could have checked if other customers were about to leave but did not). Our food order had already been cancelled and we felt pretty humiliated so we left, having to make do with a packet of crisps from another establishment! Incidentally we saw the party who had booked the table leaving 10 minutes after us, so it would seem that this shambles meant Yuzu were down multiple meals. Just a really shabby way to treat customers.
I frequently come to the Market Tap for food, most recently this last Friday night. I'm not a big drinker so can't say too much about Brew York who owns the bar, but the atmosphere's cosy and there's always a good range of beers on tap. Granted, it is sometimes a battle to find a seat, this is understandable given the quality of the food. Yuzu, who runs the food side of things, I cannot recommend highly enough. The street food is always gorgeous and the friendly staff do a fantastic job, especially considering there are 3/4 chefs operating out of a tiny kitchen which is rightfully hectic at weekends with people eating in and taking out. I'm pescatarian but hate tofu, so the chefs once accommodated me by altering their katsu curry recipe especially for me to include fried aubergine rather than chicken, and it was perfectly crispy and beautiful. Portion sizes are generous, and though serving time is very fast at non peak times I've never waited more than 30 minutes for an eat in order, which is pretty standard for any popular eating establishment on a Saturday night when every single table is packed out, including outside. This is hardly a complaint especially when I received some free gyozas for my wait. In accordance with almost every other review singing Yuzu's praises, I can't rate it highly enough as a local. The crispy fried squid is to die for!
What an absolute shocker! Having eaten at Brew York a number of times I was excited to introduce my wife to the concept in Pocklington on a rare date night (we have 3 young bairns . Having brought tickets to a comedy show at the Pocklington Arts Centre (an amazing venue in its own right by the way that started at 8 o’clock we rolled into the Market Tap at 7. Ready for some top draw ale and some food. And excited!! First impressions count though right? Imagine my surprise at arriving at the bar, being the only customer waiting, and having to do that waiting as the two bar staff rodded us off and chatted between themselves. Having eventually interrupted them to ask if we could possibly order some drinks we got some service…sort off…imagine my surprise when my wife asked for some help and the staff member pulled out his phone and started Whatapp ing someone. It was genuinely unbelievably rude. Yet more was to come… We arrived at our table and ordered some food on the app. Pretty standard order: some pulled pork chips, some edame beans and a duck gozin thingy (forgive my spelling! . Order complete at 1916 (according to the payment information on my banking app . So far so good!! A bit of chat, giggles and people watching later and I started to wonder where our food was? Not least because I had noticed that two couples that arrived after us had already been served. So I took a trip upstairs to speak to the staff. Time now 1940 nearly 25 mins after our order went in. I asked the chap for an update and he kindly went to find out. It took a few minutes though (longer than it should and he eventually returned to tell me that it would be another 10mins of me so… What the flipiddy flip fu…???!!! So I cancelled the food and returned down to the table to update the misses. Thinking that things couldn’t get any worse I was amazed to find out I was wrong…it actually could! The young lad then came down stairs and literally threw the refund receipt at me. Not a word of apology. Not a hint of contrition. Just an arrogant and conceited and unapologetic member of staff. Will I be back. No chance. Do I recommend it? Absolutely not. In fact the opposite I’d actively recommend staying well away. There appear to be lots of lovely looking alternatives in Pocklington; I’d urge you to go to or of them! None could be worse than this sh*t show!!
