Mel's Pizza - Elgin

We love Mel’s , have been going there going there for over 20 plus years! When it was Jake’s! We used to go there and eat but now we just have it delivered!

Recently went there, dark when I went inside, eerie. So ordered food by phone, showed up 1/2 later. Back kitchen from what I saw was disgusting! Filthy. Like hasn 't been cleaned in years. The dough presser had a thick white film in the center of it. They used it to make my pizza!

I just called to get menu information and was pressed to start an order so I did. I get the same pizza from every place I go; half sauce /no cheese, half sub olive oil for sauce, add spinach, garlic, and tomato no cheese. I didn’t even finish saying this before I was interrupted and told “yeahhh I don’t think we can do that. No cheese? Half sauce? Yeahhh… weird. That’s a strange one.” silence… Me “Ok, thanks, bye” (I am not rude to people, I don’t think it’s necessary, even when they are rude to me. So, I don’t know what their pizza tastes like, but I know they are incapable of making a pizza that Papa Saverios, Danny’s, Chicago Street Pizza, Rosati’s, Dominick’s, Masi’s, Village Squire, Village Pizza, Nicks Pizza, etc are all able to make with 0 issues. And they have never felt the need to tell me that I am weird or strange. I’m not sensitive, it’s whatever, but I’m not eating at a place that talks to people like that, and there are dietary restrictions and health reasons behind my specific order, which are no one’s business. Anyway.

The best this pizza has been in years, and we have ordered here for almost 20 years. Tonight however was the 2nd time we've ordered and gotten a grossly wrong estimate on time of arrival. Last time we ended up picking it up ourselves an hour later and still waited. This time the pizza showed an hour later than promised. Running late is no problem, just present it to your customers ahead of time. I could've picked it up

Good pizza if your a local. Seems to be family owned. Always gotta show love to the family owned restaurants.
