Publik House (the) - Ellenville

I waited over an hour for the Portobello Mushroom Wrap with a side salad, which was supposed to include portobello mushrooms, sautéed onions, red peppers, lettuce, and balsamic glaze. It wasn't until I complained to the bartender, who I later learned is the owner, that I found out they had run out of lettuce and had gone to Shop Rite to get more. All I received was an apology. When I requested some form of compensation, I was only given the wrap for free. When I finally received my wrap, it was missing the sautéed onions, red peppers, and balsamic glaze; it was simply mushrooms in a dry wrap. To top it off, I had to flag down the bartender (owner) from the other end of the bar just to get his attention for a drink refill. This was absolutely the worst experience. Food: 1, Service: 1, Atmosphere: 5.

Since COVID, my friends and I have been visiting Ellenville quite frequently. We travel from Rockland for a weekend getaway every few months and always made it a point to stop by The Publick House. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. We were there in February and returned twice more over the past few months, and I have to say that this place has declined significantly. The service was terrible, the drinks were weak, and there were some questionable interactions between staff and regulars that created a very uncomfortable atmosphere. There are plenty of other options in Ellenville, and what used to be a fun and welcoming spot has become quite the opposite. I'm not sure what has changed—perhaps new ownership? Regardless, it's really disappointing now. I only gave it one star because it used to be good. Save your time and look elsewhere.

I went out with a friend for wings and we definitely chose the right spot. The wings were large and generously coated with a delicious sauce (I had the bourbon BBQ). The meal was complemented by engaging conversation with the bartender, who we later discovered was the owner. I’ll definitely be coming back multiple times!

Great burger, cold beer, warm fire in the wood stove. Friendly locals kept a good fun atmosphere, cant beat a Thursday night in Ellenville in February lol, the barkeep was very sweet and hustled. Clean rest rooms. Worth a stop for a table dinner or bar food.

This place has yet to disappoint and I’ve been there numerous times. While it can take a bit to get the food out (the kitchen is small. I think there’s only one person working back there), the portions are large, the food tastes great, the mixed drinks I’ve had are very good, and the staff is always very friendly and knows exactly when to engage in conversation and when to let you be. The to go is just as good as eating in house, they have never had issues with the quality of anything in my opinion. 10/10 would recommend!
