Balkan-Hof - Essen

This is a balkan-style restaurant serving mostly German food. The menu was not as adapated as the theme and name suggested. Was it a culinary experience? Not really. It was a schnitzel, and neither the worst nor the best I had. But the slivovice was served warm, and was delicious. Go there if you like slivovice. Otherwise - well, it's a place to eat. Not bad by any means, but nothing to write home about either.

Balkan Hof is a cozy restaurant with very good food, fast service and friendly staff. We enjoyed our evening there. I highly recommend to try their hot slivovic with plum.

Serves a variety of Balkan dishes as well as steaks and some German food. The food was very good and the service was nice, we even got some free liquor on the house at the end.

Nostalgic for the Yugoslav food I used to eat in Germany, I tracked this restaurant down and was not disappointed: they had spent a lot of money on refurbishing it some years ago, and the result is stunning. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful; I chose an old friend Cevapcici, and it was cooked specially with my preference for fried onions rather than raw.

Centrally located on the main pedestrian street, very warm atmosphere, delicious food, friendly owner and very low prices. Highly recommended.
