Schevener Hof - Essen

I visited Schevener Hof for a wedding and post-wedding brunch. The building is charming and the terrace lovely. The building itself was a bit tight for a wedding but they staff was excellent and everything worked flawlessly. There was no AC but the staff easily helped the guests take the party outside. The terrace overlooks the Ruhr and is a perfect setting on a summer evening. And the food was phenomenal. The wedding spread was gigantic and the staff kept the courses moving. Great beer and drinks and awesome service. Thanks to the staff for a great time!

We ate breakfast there. It was typical fare (cold cuts, marmelade, eggs, bacon, sausages, cheese, coffee and juice). The quality of the food was very good and the portions very generous. You need a reservation.

Generally speaking, after having lived for around five years in Germany I have to say that German cuisine is not a favourite of mine, and I have found the overall friendliness and the level of service in German restaurants falls far below my expectations!In the Schevener Hof I found a real exception since my first visit with a group of friends in December. A warm welcome, beautifully dressed tables with fresh white linen and flowers and an extensive and well presented menu. My veal carré was beautifully cooked, pink and succulent ( not over cooked as so often happens in Germany ) and with just the right quantity of braised mixed root vegetables. I had not intended taking a dessert, but the charming waitress admitted to having ordered one too many and asked "would I accept it on the house?" - I agreed and enjoyed the best duet of crême brûlée I have ever tasted! Well done Schevener Hof for restoring my faith in being able to enjoy well cooked and well presented food in Nordrhein Westfalia !

Excellent freshly prepared German food. The menu is limited but everything we ordered tasted great especially the veal-schnitzel. Service is speedy and pleasant. The beer-garden with unlimited views of the Ruhr-river is great on a warm day. Highly recommended!

Restaurant serving german cuisine, good food, acceptable price, service ok. The restaurant is by the river, so in summer it is very nice sitting outside.
