We enjoyed lunch on the outdoor deck with a view of the ocean waves. It was a delightful experience. The quinoa salad topped with blackened salmon was incredibly tasty! Our server was very friendly and attentive.
We started our night in the OCEAN2000 lounge across the hotel lobby from the restaurant. The waitress assured us we could take the bottle of wine across to the restaurant after, so we bought something nice hoping to enjoy it with dinner, too. We walked over to the restaurant and the hostess immediately informed us there would be a $25 corkage fee. We explained that it came from the lounge and we could show a receipt, but that didn’t suffice. It would be $25 to bring their bottle of wine in to their restaurant. That was a no go for my wife and I, so I ran the bottle up to the room. We had already paid double what the bottle retails for. We sat outside, which if you have the opportunity, absolutely do it. The views and the sounds of waves crashing was amazing. We ordered the bacon appetizer. Don’t order the bacon appetizer. It was tough, dry, and lacked flavor. Seriously, I don’t know how you dry out pork belly, and if you just add a glaze before you grilled the slices, this thing would have been 10x better. I’d have sent it back, but I feel like that’s always a recipe for disaster. For the meal, my wife and I shared the Wagyu New York Strip, with a crab topping and bearnaise sauce. The side was a truffle mashed potatoes. This is clearly where the chef feels comfortable. The strip was perfectly cooked and there was more than enough flavor coming from the sauce and the truffle mashed potatoes. So aside from some pretty easy fixes, this place is pretty decent. No corkage fee for your own wines (seriously, y’all already marked it up in the lounge! . And either fix or remove the bacon appetizer. I like to think we just got a bad example of the dish, but whoever’s plating in the back needs to be on their game, even on a slow Sunday night.
Beautiful nostalgic waterfront restaurant with excellent cocktails and menu
