This is by far the best service I have witnessed in the DFW area. Personable, attentive, predictive...almost like it is individually tailored and choreographed for each guest. We started with the Bonnell's Cabernet Sauvignon and OystersTexasfeller. Excellent Cab that enhanced all of our dishes, down to the desert. Oysters are a very enjoyable appetizer, lovedthe smoky creole accent from the ham bits. Interesting House Salad with it's Jalapeño-Garlic vinaigrette and herbal undertones. Unique and enjoyable. The star of the meal was the Pepper-Crusted Buffalo Tenderloin with Whiskey Cream Sauce. Cookedperfectly and well crusted with fresh peppercorns. Complemented by Frites with some ketchup and ranch for dipping. Asparagusare cooked perfectly and tender to the base. Savored every bite. Wife had the Pecan Crusted Redfish. Loved the crunchy andnutty pecan crust. A nice seafood item that is one of the top ordered items here at Bonnell's. The Amaretto Chocolate, flourless, cake for desert left us speechless...this is the second star of the meal. The Kirsch Cherries on the side helpedcreate one of the most uniquely textured food items I have ever had. Like a soft pillow of cocoa goodness and hint of cherryaccent. I am at a loss for words...but make sure you save some Cabernet to sip alongside this beautiful dessert. Restaurantclosed at 9p and we had the last reservation slot at 8:45....so we cheated a little and set at the bar till 10p, sipping ontheir perfectly made Fort Worth Old Fashioned made with Garrison Bros Texas Bourbon. A little on the pricey side, but you getwhat you pay for. Looking forward to our next visit...want to explore the entire menu, because I know each item is going to besomething uniquely Bonnell's.
I was planning to take a friend out to dinner in Dallas but ended up staying in Fort Worth. We were looking for a good steakhouse and Bonnell's came up as I perused Yelp. I was a little concerned when we pulled up in the parking lot as the building looked like the lounge for a 70s-era motel but I needn't have worried. The interior of the restaurant is quite nice and is split into a bar area with some booths, and a main dining room. It has a very old school Fort Worth feel that I liked frankly-it may not be to everyone's taste but I think most people would feel at home here. The dining room is divided into groups of tables with tall glass and wood panels separating them, creating a more quiet and intimate atmosphere so you can enjoy a conversation with your companions. The farm-to-table menu is very focused with some very hearty fare including some game options. We started off with elk tacos, served on a bed of green Chile cheese grits. They were excellent and I'm glad we chose to split the appetizer because the portions are very large. We also enjoyed the wedge salad and house salad, both fresh with locally-sourced produce (the waitress assured us the veggies came from Bonnell's garden) and homemade dressings. Whiskey bleu cheese dressing--yum. Dinner entrees consisted of the elk backstrap and a buffalo tenderloin filet. The elk was beautifully done in two large medallions cooked medium rare and accompanied by a blackberry-chipotle sauce. The tenderloin was pepper crusted and also cooked perfectly with a nice sear on the outside and medium rare inside. The pommes frites were a bit too plentiful but were delicious nonetheless. Fresh cornbread was served with dinner but I never got to eat more than a sample (it was good too). I'm not a wine connoisseur but my dining partner enjoyed a selection from the extensive wine list, while I enjoyed a Crawford Bock with my dinner. Our server talked us into sharing a dessert, an extremely light and fluffy cheesecake topped with sautéed Texas peaches. Service was extremely attentive, friendly, and helpful in guiding us through the menu. I think the tucked-away location makes it harder to find and the prices are befitting of the quality you get, but it is very much worth the effort. Highly recommended.
Best Manhattan's anywhere. Try one with Angels Envy and Plum bitters. Whether I'm alone, with friends or entertaining, I love either sitting at the bar or in the lounge/bar area. It feels so cozy, rich and opulent in there. Add the exquisite service provided by true professionals and it's another one of those places where you just can't go wrong.
Loved this restaurant! The food was outstanding and just out of the ordinary enough for my taste (I 'm not super adventurous but like to try food that I don 't find at home . . My friends and family mentioned all the next day how great diner was.
