I also had the garlic mashed potatoes with gravy (no judgment, please!), which were creamy, flavorful, and the gravy was excellent. To top it all off, the lemon cake was the ideal finale to a delightful meal and definitely lived up to my expectations! I don't know why it took me so long to check this place out, but I will definitely be coming back!
We visited the restaurant on Friday afternoon and started with the fried green tomato appetizer, which was delicious paired with the wasabi sauce. For our main course, we had the fried catfish dinner along with a regular side salad dressed with balsamic vinaigrette. The catfish was decent, and the salad was just average. The restaurant itself was clean and well-lit with plenty of natural light. The service was good, and our waitress was friendly. Overall, it was an acceptable lunch experience.
For our main course, we shared a Club sandwich on lightly toasted wheat with cheddar cheese instead of Swiss, accompanied by fries — our usual choice. We also decided to try a cup of their cream of crab soup, served with cornbread, as it was the special of the day. I wasn't particularly fond of the soup, but my husband liked it. However, I really enjoyed the cornbread! The service was excellent as well!
Came to Amy's cafe today, because my first experience eating here was great! This second time around was not as good. The food was good, but kind of just felt like we were being served because we had to. I was told that they had no toppings to put on my pancakes, but later on I saw strawberries and whipped cream on other folks' plates. We had to get up and go to the hostess stand to ask for refills on our coffee after waiting for a refill for about 30 mins (we weren't even served water). We also had to get up after another 30 mins to ask the hostess for our check. The ambiance is nice, it's a cute spot, very charming. I will say though, they could get rid of the annoying bell at the entrance door. Very unfortunate experience, because this place has a lot of potential. Note: The restaurant was only at about half capacity, so not sure I can say the service was bad because they were understaffed.
The crab dip appetizer special was to die for! Did not realize this gem was tucked away back where it was, quiet location, but the word's out plenty of folks when we walked in. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Tuesday, without realizing they closed at 8pm (sorry! service was super quick, food tasted excellent, nothing to complain about. I had the salmon main with two sides (sweet potato fries and green beans and it tasted amazing. Our table ate in silence that good. Would highly recommend; 4.5 stars rounded up.
