Cafe Michael Burger was suggested by many people so off we went. The restaurant is located across the road from the beach, but has beach views. The patio had garage doors which were open and allowed the nice sea breeze to blow into the restaurant. We placed our order and grabbed a beer from their large cooler. The restaurant is very casual. The tables are plastic with plastic chairs which gave it a cool, laid back feeling. The burgers were large and the patties hand formed. I enjoyed the burger, but I wasn't blown away. The fries were also just OK. We tried both the standard and curly fries with the curly being the better of the two. I'm not sure it was just an off day, but I didn't find the burger to be anything special. Cash only, but there is an ATM inside.
One of the best burgers I've ever had. They use real beef that are hand formed into patties and not that pressed meat. They cook did it right and didn't press all the juice out of them. Nice staff, clean and friendly.
This burger spot is toward the west end of the island off of Seawall. It's a bigger building with a patio that opens up on warmer days, so there is indoor and outdoor seating. Their menu is mostly burgers with some hotdogs and German items. I was most impressed with their fries, which were crispy and well seasoned. They reminded me of the style that comes with fish and chips. I got the Gálvez burger--cheddar cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, and mayo. The flavor was good but the pico de gallo was t what I expected. Rather than a finely chopped mixture, the tomatoes were large chunks with very small onions and only one or two pieces of jalapeño. It was much more like a tomato relish. The burger was a bit messy but that comes with a lot of sauce. It was a good burger for a change of pace but not the best.
The perfect Burger! I got the Tiki Burger and it was just the right combination of juicy, messy and tasty! We added baskets of sweet potato fries, regular fries, and the highly recommended spicy fries. The spicy fries were a surprise. The hot spice didn't catch me until I was swallowing my second one, and when the heat hit the back of my throat I had to reach for my ice water. I noticed that everyone else at my table reached for their ice cold beers! (I was the designated driver for our car! Surprisingly, you can also order from a selection of German fare schnitzels and brats which I intend to try on my next trip. This place has a beachy feel and when the outdoor overhead doors are open there is a nice breeze blowing up from the beach. Definitely a laid back vibe. If you find yourself in Galveston craving a good juicy burger, this is your place.
We always wanted to try the burgers, but the place never seems to be open. Well we were finally in luck. Cute place. Obviously a very beachy vibe. You place your order at the counter and called out when it is ready to pick up. The gentlemen at the register taking our order was not friendly at all. We had the campeche burger, Chicken strips and wienerschnitzel. Nothing to rave about. The burger was okay and the wienerschnitzel was very dry. We thought the food was overpriced (but so are many restaurants on the island) especially for a self serve type of establishment.
