I’m unsure whether the food falls under Americanized Chinese cuisine or if it has evolved to cater to Japanese tastes. Regardless, there’s nothing that pairs better with a bowl of rice than Wong's almond duck. The egg rolls here are also quite different from what you may find elsewhere. The wrappers are thick, almost resembling fried wonton skins, and they’re filled with ground pork, with no vegetables in sight. They are deliciously coated in a sweet and tangy sauce that isn’t cloyingly sweet like the typical ruby-red jelly most people know. Overall, this place is a true gem for lovers of authentic Chinese flavors.
This is the best Chinese food in the city—you have to try it! They offer only à la carte options and casual dishes that are fresh, unique, and flavorful. Fast food Chinese restaurants can't compare to this place.
I really enjoy Wongs, but I have to say that one thing every Chinese restaurant should offer is good rice. When you go there next time, take a look at the rice grains—they're mostly broken and clearly purchased at a low price. The fried rice is not much better; it’s barely warm, has an off-brown color, and doesn’t seem properly fried. Everything else on the menu is great, but I wish they would invest a little more in quality. It's honestly a bit disappointing.
