Írjon visszajelzéstWe tried mussels in a cream and white wine sauce, that was nice...THe scallops were also nice... The risotto was bland and not creamy as a good risotto should be.. Not enough taste either... The boeuf bourguignon , looked dry and unappetising .it also had no flavour... The place lacks ambience and is cold... Service was okay..
There's nothing innovative or new about this French restaurant. It's all good traditional food - well presented and well prepared. Whether it's pate or escargot, canard a l'orange or bouillabaisse, you won't be disappointed. We sat out in the pleasant, private courtyard, were well looked after by our young (admittedly Italian) waiter and enjoyed our night out.
Chanced upon this restaurant while strolling through Fitzroy street in St. Kilda looking for a place to have dinner. We were attracted by the quaint look of this small restaurant and decided to try it out. The food was fantastic. My wife ordered the lobster and prawn ravioli which she thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the steak and it was possibly the best steak I've ever had. The mushroom sauce that came with the stake was just too good.
It doesn't look like much from the outside, and let's face it, this part of Fitzroy Street isn't the best part (although it is lively!) of St. Kilda. But, Embassy@97 was a pleasant surprise. Crisp white tablecloths (ordinary cutlery, crockery and glassware) create a pleasant first impression and in addition to the small inside area there is a small courtyard (which would be improved if broken windows were repaired). The welcome and service were good, the menu small and very traditional and the meals were well prepared and presented. The snails and pate are both served with miniscule serving of bread (nice, but not nearly enough to enjoy the garlic sauce from the snails or the good-sized serve of pate). The main courses were generous and well cooked. The orange sauce on the duck did not overwhelm the crispy duck and the steak was perfectly cooked. Our shared dessert platter was more than enough and the mousse and ice cream were excellent. Perhaps the creme brulee was a bit too egg-y. Small but good quality wine list. A pleasant evening out.
Took the usual punt of wandering down a street and checking out reviews. This place was give it a chance and see how it turned out. Good solid four stars that with some work could get up into cult status. It is truly French rather than Aussie French so park your Aussie expectation on plate size. It is more a three courses to full rather than fill up on main. I ordered the French cider which I quite like despite my friends commenting that it tastes like swamp water. The wine list is rather over priced hence my choice. The patte was in house made and excellent but here is where the work is required. It came with about three slices of small bread. No issue getting more bread but why have to ask?The seafood briquette was magnificent in flavour and freshness. Yes small in actual volume but as said three course meal is the goal. Again not sure if you should have a spoon for the "soup" remaining in true French dining but it was good enough to break this rule if it does exist. Sadly I did not have the implements to do this. The crepe suzette was very French with almost marmalade type flavour. Again I loved it but others might not finding it too sticky. My opinion get over that and it is great. I think it is one the restaurants that rather you imposing your ideas you will be better served by accepting what they do and enjoy it for that reason. Ie accept limited menu and small serving size and enjoy the flavours. Bit of work on cutlery for each course and it would close the gap to 4.5-5. My ratings are for a price zone rather than absolute.
