Mandoline - Glen Eira

Mandoline is fast becoming a first choice for my wife and I for a tea and coffee and the home made carrot cake which is to die for. We have also enjoyed great, inexpensive, lunches. Highly recommended and Thierry is to be congratulated on this venture.

Once again dinned at the venue, I'm continually impressed with the service & menus , with summer here ample seating in back court yard , and footpath seating as well !Very reasonable prices, coffee is to my liking, great place to organise a function with friends,excellant atmosphere!Cheers peter

Been here before and the food is quite good infact. But the coffee is so bad that it lets the joint down. I get sick off bad coffee but it doesn't happen that often in Melbourne as there are many star baristas around. Typically when I go here I order a hot chocolate but as I was ordering a sweeter breakfast I went with a flat white. What I got was a burnt coffee and I knew by the top it was going to make me sick. Unfortunately I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought let me try this. It left me with a terrible after taste and I drunk a few sips as I really wanted a decent flat white. I then had to eat my food quickly so that my body and something else to expel while I spend my day off throwing it up. If I didn't have the coffee, I would give this about a 4 but I can't give a place anything over a 2 that makes me physically sick. When I told the person at the till who asked how my meal was I told her and she didn't give a damn and oh have a nice day charged full price. I almost felt like bagging up my puke and sending it to them!!!!!!

Mandoline is the latest venture by Master chef Thierry Leievre - formally of the hugely successful Ficelle French Restaurant in Parkdale. Thierry has assembled a number of his kitchen and dining room crew from Ficelle to hit the ground running in his new Elsternwick location. You get the feeling that his crew know what they provide is special.Mandoline Menu is more International with French influence, than "French". The cooking is brilliant: the prices are affordable. The menu is interesting, varied and regularly changing. Mandoline is open 7-days for Breakfast and Lunch - Wednesday-Sat for Dinner. The special two course (or optional three course) lunch and dinner menus are amazing value. The desserts are to die for.Wine list while not comprehensive is thoughtful and very affordable. BYO wine available too!

Tried dinner menu. Shared calamari. Which was just lightly pan fried. Tasty. Prawn linguine. Plenty of prawns. Not a large serve but satisfying. Creme burlee. Smooth and creamy. Lovely service. Polite and attentive. Only bad is the acoustic in the place hard floors and no soft furnishings make the place loud. Please give this place a go as it deserves to succeed.
