We eat Pizza here regularly - there are heaps of other great dinning options on the list but great for a family get together. Tables can be arranged for 2 to 20 people. Nothing is to much bother for the staff and great for kids
We ordered takeout from this restaurant, and unfortunately, they made a mistake with our order and gave us the wrong pizza. The pizza was overloaded with cheese and oil and lacked any flavor. The pasta we also ordered was undercooked and tasted like a cheap packaged Macaroni and Cheese. I would advise against spending your money at this establishment.
We've been to this restaurant a couple of times. We've always enjoyed the steaks there and tonight we decided to go Italian. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!My wife had the cabbage rolls and I had the boscaiola pasta. Italian food is vibrant, supposed to be fresh and exciting. I got over cooked pasta slop with some tomato sauce which smacked of old bolognese sauce that would be used as a common sauce through any pasta on the menu. Tasted ****! Hardly any mushrooms, and no saltiness from the included bacon. 1/10 that's generous. It's hard to describe the cabbage rolls as they were from another world. Revolting, just starts the taste. The waitress did not even come over and ask us about the meal when she saw us even though we were toying with the food. When we discussed the food on wanting to leave they were nonchalant in the attitude and gave some poor rendition of sorry! What a pity. Were are local, trying to support local, and they put up a really poor show. Would I recommend this place. NO FRIGGING WAY.
This unassuming location (in Benowa Court, directly opposite the Super A-Mart Outdoor Furnishings emporium) hides behind darkened glass so it's a wonderful surprise when you walk in to see beautifully-laid tables, supremely comfortable and rather chic chairs, freshly touched-up murals, vines hanging from trellises, in fact everything to make you feel like you're in a genuine Italian Trattoria (definitely too grand to be a mere Cantina!). And the ambience is matched by the warmth of the welcome. The menu is extensive (featuring, naturally enough, pastas and pizzas, chicken, veal, steak and fish dishes) and, with the notable exception of the steaks, not expensive for the quantity and the quality you'll receive. For our main we each ordered Veal Milanese ($25.90) which came out, all three pieces of it, tender, cooked to perfection, and served with whole halves of lemon. The vegetables (snow peas, carrots, new potatoes) came in a side dish and couldn't be faulted. The BYO corkage is a very reasonable $2.50 per person, and the Benowa Tavern for your wine purchases is about 50 metres and clearly visible at the end of the courtyard drive. Parking is plentiful. The one jarring note was the Pizza Herb Bread (small, costing $8.50). Not the quantity of it, more than ample for a family of four. It is listed under "Starters" but, for reasons best known to the server, we waited, and waited and waited until we asked when it would be coming as we didn't want it to be served at the same time as the main meal. This must have been a revelation to the girl as she instantly brought it out and clearly told the kitchen to go slower on the main. Unfortunately the bread was utterly dry and clearly hadn't been drizzled with the usual olive oil, so it was a major disappointment and a sore point of frustration. But it was the only negative in our first-time experience of this well-established restaurant on the Gold Coast and we'll definitely be back to enjoy more of their authentic Italian cuisine.
